While hanging around on the east coast of Mondstadt, some Genshin Impact players may have noticed an island far out to sea. It looks too far to glide to, and it's very clearly too far out to successfully swim to, leaving many questioning its purpose. As it happens, this uninhabited island is actually the start of a secret world quest called Time and the Wind.

Genshin Impact is full of secrets, and it does an excellent job of rewarding players that are able to sniff them out. In the case of Time and the Wind, the challenges mount on top one another throughout the whole quest. As if getting to the island wasn't hard enough, there are several confusing puzzles the player must solve once there, and a particularly challenging combat trial as well.

Before players can worry about how to disperse clusters of wind, they need to find a way over. Thankfully, there are three known ways to do this at the moment, and two of them can theoretically be done very early on in the game. Which method players choose is up to them, but it's worth saying that it will take some time and preparation either way.

Kaeya uninhabited island route

The first method to get across is the most time consuming but also the easiest to do. Using Kaeya's cryo elemental skill, players can freeze the water underfoot and make a path to the island. His skill cools down fast enough so that he won't fall into the water, and with enough time eventually he'll make it across.

Players with less patience can choose to glide across instead, but this requires more preparation and a solid team in order to do correctly. For the best results, players should have at least 200 stamina from worshipping the Statues of the Seven and start from the highest point on Starsnatch Cliff. Using either Venti or Amber to glide across also helps as they provide a 20% reduction to stamina consumption when gliding. For those players with a second Anemo character, having two in the party further reduces stamina consumption by 15%. Finally, dishes like the Northern Smoked Chicken restore stamina and can be used mid-air in case the other precautions taken still aren't enough.

The third and final way to get across is more controversial, as it is actually a Genshin Impact glitch that lets players walk to the secret island. On the northeastern coast of Mondstadt, there is a small cave that players can enter at the bottom of the cliff. Going in here glitches the game, causing all the water in the ocean to vanish and allowing players to walk across the sea floor. Any of these three methods should work to get players to the Time and the Wind quest area.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, and PS4, and later on Switch.
