Genshin Impact, the popular free-to-play adventure game from 2020, isn't losing any popularity as players head into 2021. Players helped make Genshin Impact the fastest mobile game to reach $1 billion in sales, and are still invested in its world. The developer, miHoYo, is committed to continual development on the game, and has released a trailer showing off gameplay for the next-gen version of Genshin Impact.

Revealed several months ago, Genshin Impact is coming to the PS5. The developer currently support the game on the PS4, but confirmed a next-gen version is in the works. Players won't have to wait too long, as the PS5 version of Genshin Impact launches alongside the game's 1.5 update on April 28.

In anticipation of Genshin Impact releasing on the PS5 next week, miHoYo's gameplay trailer shows off some elements that players can expect. At the start, players will see the Traveler gliding around Mondstadt, before reaching Hertha, who deals with bounties. Players get a glimpse at how the menu UI will work on the PS5. Soon after the trailer shows the player fast-traveling, revealing probably one of the best features that will be present in the PS5 version of the game. Load times for Genshin Impact are immensely reduced for the console, lasting only a couple seconds each time a loading screen is brought up.

The trailer also shows off several fights with enemies from Childe to Rhodeia of Loch, Oceanid of Qingce. With the improved performance coming to players in the 1.5 update, and no doubt with the PS5's power, frame drops may be a thing of the past. Several of the fights in the trailer had the player switching quickly between different characters and activating several abilities at the same time. Even though so much was happening on the screen, the frame rate stayed smooth, and the action was clear.

While it's unclear whether these benefits will only apply to PS5 players or everyone who downloads the 1.5 update, PS5 players will be able to expect a smooth experience. The next update for Genshin Impact will also add housing, plus other general performance improvements. After the update, Genshin Impact should hopefully run better for players on all platforms.

Fans of miHoYo's open-world fantasy adventure will have a bunch of content coming their way this year. Even with an important conversation about boycotting Genshin Impact happening earlier this month, the game's popularity will likely continue to grow. Based on the gameplay revealed for the PS5, it wouldn't be surprising to see several new players trying out the game on Sony's next-gen console.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, and PS4, and will release on PS5 on April 28. A Switch version is also in development.
