Back to All Characters

Genshin Impact 2.8 brings back one of the most desired characters in Genshin Impact, Kaedehara Kazuha. This, combined with the fact that Sumeru is coming one version after, makes it one of the most favored updates so far. Other than Kazuha, Klee is also featured alongside the Samurai. Meanwhile, the featured 4-stars are Shikanoin Heizou, Thoma, and Ningguang.

Ningguang is no doubt one of the most majestic characters in Genshin Impact. The Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing totally looks the part with her golden palette, but her damage is not less majestic than her appearance. If players manage to avoid the following mistakes, they will find that Ningguang can be a valuable asset in their Genshin Impact teams.

6 Not Using Elemental Skill To Buff

After ascending Ningguang to the fourth stage, she’ll unlock a helpful Genshin Impact ascension passive. After she casts her Elemental Skill, any character that walks through her Jade Screen will be granted a 12% Geo DMG Bonus for 10s. This buff works for any character, so if there’s another Geo unit in the team, players can make them walk through the screen to get the bonus as well. One downside to remember is that each character has to walk through the Screen to gain the buff, so it should be done quickly to avoid losing a few precious seconds.

After unlocking Ningguang’s fourth Genshin Impact Constellation, the Jade Screen will also provide 10% Elemental RES to characters standing nearby.

5 Incorrectly Using Ningguang’s Elemental Burst

Ningguang can be a great main DPS and Sub-DPS in Genshin Impact. As a sub-DPS, the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing will be a Burst bot. Her ultimate only requires 40 Energy and 12s cooldown to use, so it’s easy for her to spam her Elemental Burst.

However, using Ningguang’s Burst isn’t as simple as pressing the cast button. Before unleashing Ningguang’s ultimate, players should cast her Elemental Skill first. Without her Jade Screen, the Tianquan will fire around six projectiles, but with it, around nine projectiles will be fired. Note that the Jade Screen will be destroyed in the process, so players will be losing the protection against projectiles provided by the Jade Screen.

4 Ignoring Ningguang’s Constellation

Ningguang can’t perform as an effective main DPS if players don’t own her first Constellation. Ningguang C1 allows the Tianquan to deal AoE damage through her Normal Attack, allowing her to deal with a horde of enemies faster. Meanwhile, the second Genshin Impact Constellation is highly useful for ensuring the Jade Screen is always present. After players break the screen by casting Ningguang’s ultimate, the cooldown of the Skill will be reset, allowing immediate recasting of the ability.

Afterward, Ningguang’s C4 takes a defensive turn where characters standing near a Jade Screen will gain 10% Elemental RES. Lastly, the Tianquan’s final Constellation allows her to be a top-tier sub-DPS, where she can deal great damage in a short amount of time. Most of Ningguang’s Constellation is highly useful, so players should not ignore the bonus effects they provide.

3 Not Alternating Between Normal And Charged Attack

When her Normal Attack hits an opponent, Ningguang will gain one Star Jade. This can be seen as floating rocks behind her, and up to three Jades can exist at once. Then, players can fire these Star Jades by using Ningguang’s Charged Attack. All the available Jades will be fired at once, allowing the Tianquan to deal some bonus damage.

Because of this Star Jade mechanic, players should alternate between Ningguang’s Normal and Charged Attack. Don’t worry about losing Stamina as her first ascension passive allows Ningguang to use her Charged Attack without consuming Stamina as long as a Star Jade exists before performing the hit.

2 Not Using Charged Attack After Casting Elemental Burst

After players unlock Ningguang’s final Constellation in Genshin Impact, casting Elemental Burst will grant the Tianquan six Star Jades. Because of this, Travelers should immediately use C6 Ningguang’s Charged Attack after using her ultimate. This combo turns Ningguang from a decent sub-DPS to a highly effective one.

However, before attempting this, players should keep in mind that the Tianquan’s hits are rather clunky. Sometimes, even after pressing the button for Charged Attack, the character refuses to perform the action, leaving the Star Jade dormant behind her. When this happens, make sure to redo the Charged Attack, otherwise, the Star Jade will eventually disappear and players will lose the opportunity to deal great damage quickly.

1 Not Utilizing Geo Resonance

Ningguang has plenty of potentials to work as a great main DPS. However, to achieve this, players should set her up with some specific Genshin Impact pairs. So far, Zhongli is easily the best character to pair with Ningguang. The Geo Archon will provide Geo RES reduction via his shield, protect Ningguang from hits, and, most importantly, trigger Geo Resonance with the Tianquan.

Geo Resonance grants 15% extra DMG as long as the character is protected by the shield. It will also further reduce the enemies’ Geo RES, allowing Ningguang to deal some large damage. Other than that, a Genshin Impact character like Yun Jin is also great with Ningguang. The Opera performer can greatly buff Normal Attack damage, and with Ningguang’s special mechanic, the buff granted by Yun Jin is basically doubled on each of the Tianquan’s hits.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5 and a Switch version is in development.
