With patch 1.5 of Genshin Impact raring to be released, fans of miHoYo's massively successful free-to-play are already looking into the future of what patch 1.6 will hold. Fan speculation- and a few leaks- are suggesting players will be taking to the high seas in the near future, opening the gates for a cadre of new characters from the much-anticipated Inazuma region.

While the current version of Genshin Impact currently incorporates the realms of Mondstadt and Liyue, it is all but confirmed that players will see the Japanese-inspired Inazuma region in the near future, with leaks suggesting an introductory quest in the area landing with 1.6 in the next few months with May at the earliest, but more likely June. The Inazuma area has been teased in the past with the character Scaramouche, though more tidbits have been introduced to players in-game- as well as a largely accurate bevy of leaks available online.

Genshin Impact holds a lot of its future content in the game's files, leading to a myriad array of leaks, from new characters to new maps such as the recent ones that previewed Inazuma. Inazuma clearly takes inspiration from ancient Japan as an insular island nation, which, much like the other lands in Genshin Impact, is steeped in mythos and magic.

The lightning pace of Genshin Impact's updates raises the question regarding if the game will see content at such a rate for the entirety of Genshin Impact's greatly expanded timeline. With two major cities, their associated locales, and the addition of Dragonspine Mountain, there is already a broad array of content in the game as the six-month anniversary of the game approaches- with yet more on the horizon. The way new travel systems are being looked into could hint at even longer voyages being available in the future of Genshin Impact to lands yet unknown in game.

With such a colossal swell of support, miHoYo's free-to-play title has surpassed all expectations, with a huge backing on mobile devices alone. One of the game's greatest strengths is its dispersion across platforms, making Genshin Impact an easily accessible title for gamers of all passions and ages. This, grouped with a free-to-play framework and a lovable world and characters, means Genshin Impact holds sway over a large swathe of the internet.

While this passion for the title has seen plans for Genshin Impact kicked into overdrive, it has also lead to some contrition from miHoYo regarding the prevalence of leaks for the title. While leaks only really impact the most dedicated portion of the player base, it's evident that miHoYo wants to keep the secrets of its leading title under wraps to keep story and gameplay reveals under wraps as not to ruin the surprise for others. Regardless of intent, leakers can be attributed as a current part of Genshin Impact's success, fueling the flames of hype for the next patch before the current one is even out.

Genshin Impact is available now on PC, mobile devices, and PS4, and is currently in development for Switch. The PS5 version launches April 28.
