A Genshin Impact report reveals HoYoverse managed to reach impressive total revenue and net income numbers in 2022. Even though the game is free-to-play for the most part, it also features a gacha-based system that requires players to spend their Primogems to acquire certain limited characters.

Every update Genshin Impact update has two banner cycles, each of which features a set of limited characters, one or two five-stars, and three four-star units. Players have approximately 3 weeks to pull for these characters until their banner expires. However, Travelers who didn't manage to pull for a character have to wait for 5-7 months for these characters to receive re-runs.

According to a Chinese state-owned media named Guangming Daily, Genshin Impact's developer HoYoverse disclosed their revenue and net income for the previous year. According to their reports, HoYoverse revenue was around 3.844 billion USD and their overall net income was around 2.27 billion USD. Many fans in the comment section claim that they were expecting to see strong numbers, they are surprised that HoYoverse who is still considered an indie company managed to reach such a high net income. Some players claim that the revenue specifically related to Genshin Impact could be slightly lower this year considering that HoYoverse launched a new game named Honkai: Star Rail that also attracted a big part of the player base.

According to recent banner sales reports, the last couple of Limited Character Banners did not do too well. For example, even though the second cycle for the previous Genshin Impact update 3.6 featured two new Dendro users, Baizhu and Kaveh, the banner attracted a surprisingly low amount of sales.

Another reason why many players are currently saving their Primogems is the fact that Genshin Impact will introduce a brand-new region named Fontaine in the upcoming months. This means that players will get the chance to pull for a new set of Fontaine-themed characters and weapons fairly soon.

With Genshin Impact's pool of playable characters constantly expanding, there is a high chance that HoYoverse could change the way their banner mechanics work. Back in update 2.3, they introduced double banners which allowed players to pull for two different limited five-star characters within one single banner cycle. Fans hope that the Fontaine update could add a triple banner feature which would allow them to acquire three different five-stars.

Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
