Unlike Genshin Impact's version 3.7 update, which heavily focused on enhancing the Genius Invokation TCG with a large number of new playable cards and action cards, the 3.8 update focuses on various gameplay aspects. This includes the introduction of a new limited-time location called Veluriyam Mirage, which players can explore as part of the annual summer flagship event. Additionally, as the Sumeru Arc comes to a close, players are continued to be treated to new TCG cards, including the addition of three new playable cards: Yanfei, Candace, and Kaedehara Kazuha.

The newly added cards have already received a positive response from the community. They can synergize well with existing characters, while also introducing new elements that can potentially change the meta. Yanfei's card, in particular, has caught the attention of players, similar to her fanbase in the actual Genshin Impact gameplay. Players enjoy utilizing this 4-star character to her fullest potential, which can rival that of some 5-star characters. Yanfei's TCG kit bears similarities to another available Pyro catalyst, Klee in TCG, as both her Elemental Burst and Elemental Skill provide additional benefits to Charged Attacks.

Yanfei's Talent Card: Right of Final Interpretation

Genshin Impact Genius Invokation TCG Yanfei Talent Card

Yanfei's Talent Card stands out as one of the most unique cards in the game. Unlike many characters whose talent cards are tied to their Elemental Burst or Skill, Yanfei's card is linked to her normal attack. However, its use can be considered situational. Players must carefully manage their dice rolls to ensure the next attack is a charged attack and activate it when the enemy's HP is below 6. This effect provides Yanfei with an added damage bonus, and allow her to one-shot an enemy considering that the enemy's HP is already relatively low. However, utilizing this card is not mandatory. Players have the flexibility to focus on the talent cards of other team members or select other action cards that may bring more value to the team.

Best Yanfei Decks

As a character focused on DPS, Yanfei thrives when paired with team members who can facilitate more elemental reactions through her Pyro application, as well as provide additional utility such as healing or defensive capabilities. Therefore, the ideal team members for Yanfei are typically those who can create summons that continue to apply elemental effects even when they are not on the field, allowing Yanfei to remain as the active character for an extended period of time. Typically, when players swap to Yanfei, they should be first activating her skill, and then her normal attack as a charged attack followed by her Burst. After her Burst, Yanfei can focus on normal attacks for an extended period, until the effect of Scarlet Seal goes away.

Yanfei + Kokomi + Venti

Genshin Impact Genius Invokation TCG Yanfei Kokomi Venti

Given Yanfei's consistent Pyro application, she excels at enabling Vaporize reactions. As a result, having a character like Kokomi on the team can be highly beneficial. Kokomi not only serves as a healer but also has the ability to summon and apply Hydro at the end of the turn, which sets up favorable conditions for Yanfei. Furthermore, being a Catalyst character, Kokomi ensures a constant application of Hydro, even when her Elemental Skill is not required.

Additionally, Venti's Swirl capabilities prove to be incredibly useful. Swirl not only provides additional crowd control by forcing opponents to swap characters, disrupting their combos, but it also spreads elemental effects among multiple opponents. By using Venti's Swirl after Kokomi's Hydro application, the stage is set for Yanfei to deal significant damage regardless of the active character. Alternatively, when in a difficult situation with low HP, Venti can swirl Pyro instead. This allows Kokomi to unleash higher damage output while also healing through her normal attacks after using her Burst. This strategic adjustment can potentially turn the tide of the battle. Players who do not feel the need for a healer character can also opt-in for Mona instead of Kokomi.

Yanfei + Yae Miko + Beidou

Genshin Impact Genius Invokation TCG Yanfei Yae Miko Beidou

Upon the release of Klee and Beidou's card together, they formed a formidable combination, especially when paired with a character like Fischl who facilitated additional Electro application. Similarly, this team composition can yield remarkable results by replacing Fischl with Yae Miko. Yae Miko not only enhances the team's damage potential thanks to her stronger DMG potential but, together with Beidou, provides ample Electro application for Yanfei to capitalize on the Overload reaction. Like Swirl, Overload also grants the team crowd control capabilities that potentially prevent opponent's combos.

To optimize this setup, players should prioritize activating Beidou's Burst as quickly as possible and then switch to Yae Miko for her summon. This enables players to keep Yanfei as the active character for an extended period until Beidou's effect dissipates. Additionally, Beidou can contribute defensive utilities to the team composition, further enhancing its overall effectiveness.

Yanfei + Bennett + Xingqiu

Genshin Impact Genius Invokation TCG Yanfei Bennett Xingqiu

Players have the option to explore another Vaporize team composition alongside the first example. However, in this case, instead of relying on summons and swirling, players can capitalize on the coordinated attacks between Xingqiu and Yanfei. This synergy allows Yanfei to unleash significant damage with each of her attacks. While this team composition may lack crowd control abilities, it compensates with enhanced versatility and the potential for higher DPS output within each round.

Xingqiu plays a crucial role in boosting Yanfei's Normal Attack damage, while Bennett offers additional flexibility in situations where dice management may not be in the favor of charge attack. In such cases, Bennett can enhance Yanfei's skill damage instead, providing an alternative option for players to consider. To set up the field effectively, players should ensure that Xingqiu's Elemental Burst is activated initially, followed by swapping to Bennett to utilize his Elemental Skill and activate his Burst. This sequence allows the team to unleash Vaporize damage before eventually swapping to Yanfei, resulting in an accelerated match pace. Once both Xingqiu and Bennett's bursts are active, Yanfei can confidently utilize her Elemental Skill followed by devastating normal (charged) attacks to deal substantial blows to the opponents.

Genshin Impact Genius Invokation TCG Best Action Cards 2

One significant advantage of Yanfei team compositions is that she can effectively utilize many of the top-rated cards available in the TCG. Furthermore, she has the flexibility to incorporate equipment cards since her combo rotations do not rely on specific cards (such as quick swap), allowing players to allocate space for these cards in their deck. However, since Yanfei's damage output primarily stems from her Charged attacks, it becomes crucial to manage dice effectively. To achieve optimal results, players should consider cards that help generate dice or modify the dice numbers to ensure an even count remains. Valuable cards in this regard include Timmie and resonance cards (Pyro or Electro, depending on the chosen team compositions mentioned earlier). Additionally, cards like Varanara can prove valuable in maintaining a desirable number of dice each round, enabling Yanfei to unleash multiple attacks.

Additionally, even though Yanfei's deck does not explicitly require defensive cards due to their inherent defensive mechanics, players can still benefit from including cards that provide healing or reduce damage taken when they are in a pinch. Cards such as "Leave it to Me" or "Changing Shifts" can prove valuable in the early turns when setting up the field, and they do not consume any dice, allowing for greater flexibility in the deck.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
