Genshin Impact's Sumeru region has introduced a new type of common enemy, namely Fungi, which can be commonly found everywhere across all areas of Sumeru. These enemies come in different elemental types, with some of them also appearing in tougher (elite) forms, giving players quite the diversity when it comes to farming these monsters. Nevertheless, while they come in different elemental forms, similar to their counterparts like slimes or specters, their drops do not differ based on their elemental type. Additionally, unlike the aforementioned enemies, Fungi do not possess immunity against their own respective elements.

As with every enemy type, their drop rarity depends on the enemy level and some luck; however, Genshin Impact also introduces a new form of drop mechanic specifically for Fungi. As such, Fungi drop two sets of different items, namely Fungal Spores, Luminescent Pollen, and Crystalline Cyst Dust as the normal drops, while if the enemy is activated or scorched, they will drop an entirely different set, which includes Inactive/Dormant/Robust Fungal Spores. Therefore, players should be aware of which elements they are using against these enemies, depending on which material type they are farming. Luckily, there are over 1000 fungi across Sumeru, making farming relatively easy for either of the materials.

How to Farm Fungal Spores

Genshin Impact_ Fungal Spore Drops

Considering that Fungal Spores and their higher rarity versions are used for a lot of the Sumeru characters' ascension and talents, as opposed to the other set, which is only used as an ascension material for a few specific weapons, players will need to avoid using Pyro or Electro characters on their teams in order to get the right set. This is because using Pyro will cause the enemies to become scorched, while Electro will cause them to be activated. Interestingly, activated and scorched enemies, when defeated, drop triple the Character EXP. They may also occasionally drop the lowest rarity Fungal Spores, though players will not be able to obtain the higher rarities, Luminescent Pollen, and Crystalline Cyst Dust when these enemies are affected by Pyro or Electro.

As such, it is recommended that players bring team compositions that include Hydro, Dendro, and Anemo characters to farm these enemies. Cryo and Geo are also viable options, though specifically creating Bloom teams while also utilizing Anemo to group enemies (since they are usually in large groups) and Dendro cores together can create a more efficient and fun team composition for long farming sessions, as opposed to taking a defensive stance with Freeze or Geo teams, as these opponents are quite easy to defeat.

Additionally, considering the high number of enemies, players are recommended to pick a few of their favorite farming routes and, for the rest, rely on the Adventure Book to keep track of some additional locations they can check for extra materials. It's also worth noting that many of these enemies are located underground, which may be inaccessible or simply inconvenient for many players. With that being said, this guide will include some recommended above-ground routes and not cover all of them.

Sumeru Rainforest Farming Routes

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Locations in Sumeru Rainforest

Compared to the Sumeru Desert, players will find many more enemies, as most of them are above ground, unlike the almost entirely underground areas of the rainforest.

Vimara Village Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Vimara Village

Simply use both teleport points near Vimara Village to reach the nearby fungi groups. The West teleport point is best used three times to reach the locations quicker. Players can skip the underground location in this area.

Chinvat Ravine Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Chinvat Ravine

Players can simply follow the route from the teleport point at Chinvat Ravine, by the exit of Sumeru city, and follow the route. They can also teleport to the Statue of Seven at Gandharva Ville to pick another group of fungi quickly. The underground enemies visible on the map are also skipped.

Sumeru City Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Sumeru City

Players can use the teleport point at the west exit of Sumeru city to reach the two groups of fungi. Additionally, they can make their way from one of the nearby teleport points or otherwise from the previous fungi spot to the next spot.

Pardis Dhyai Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Pardis Dhyai

From the teleport point east of Pardis Dhyai, players can easily find the fungi group. From this location, by going south, players can also find additional groups of fungi if they have not already collected them during their Vimara Village route. Additionally, by using the Statue of Seven nearby, players can reach the group of three fungi and others located on the small lake.

Yasna Monument Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Yasna Monument

Some of the fungi near Yasna Monument are actually closer to the group of three fungi from the Pardis Dhyai farming location. For the others, players can use the teleport point on the west side to glide below and follow the two different routes.

Fane of Ashvattha Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Fane of Ashvattha

In this location, while there are many nearby teleport points, the best is to simply follow the route from the Statue of Seven to both groups of Fungi. Alternatively, those who have done the Yasna Monument route can head north from the fungi on the water to reach this spot if they prefer not to use teleport points as often.

South Vanarana Fungi Farming Route

There is only one spot for these fungi nearby, and they can be reached quickly by gliding from the teleport point on the hill north of Fane of Ashvattha. By doing so, players can find the fungi on the water.

North Port Ormos Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route North Port Ormos

Players can simply access the fungi by taking the teleport point north of Port Ormos and following the arrow lines toward the north to find the groups of enemies. Additionally, by the east of Apam Woods teleport point, players can find two sets of fungi. This route also connects with the potential farm route in Apam Woods, though since this area has quite a lot of elevation with many fungi being underground, it is recommended to be skipped unless players need much more Fungal Spores.

Jadeplume Terrorshroom Boss Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Jadeplume Terrorshroom Boss

This last spot in the Sumeru Rainforest is technically underground, the same as the boss itself. Luckily, however, players can easily unlock this boss as opposed to many underground locations in Sumeru. Upon doing so, they can find a large amount of them at the ground level below the boss when they circle the area after using the underground teleport point near the boss. There are also some other fungi at the south of this cave. Players can see the underground view above.

Sumeru Desert Farming Routes

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Locations in Sumeru Desert

While there are also many farming locations in the Sumeru Desert, the number of Fungi roaming in these regions is around half of the forest, and many of them are underground. As such, there are fewer farming routes for this area, and they are not as time-efficient as the rainforest due to the smaller amount of fungi present. Once again, only above-ground locations have been picked as farming routes.

Aaru Village Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Aaru Village

Players can start this route from the Caravan Ribat and head towards the Statue of Seven at Aaru Village and move past ahead to farm fungi south of it. Additionally, the fungi in this area are generally quite scattered. However, by using the teleport point northwest of Aaru village and gliding in various directions, players will come across small groups of fungi.

Dar al-Shifa Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Dar al-Shifa

This route also has scattered groups of fungi, however, it is relatively easier in comparison to Aaru Village due to the terrain levels. Players can start from the most eastern teleport point on the map and first head towards the mini lake on the same level towards the east, and after that glide down from the hill and follow the arrows to reach the other groups below this level. Additionally, by using the central teleport point on the map multiple times, players can find multiple groups of fungi. It's important to note that some of the marked fungi on the group on the northwest by the ruins are underground; nevertheless, there are still plenty to be farmed above ground by the small oasis there. Lastly, players can head to the western teleport point by the Sobek Oasis to pick up the remaining groups.

The Dune of Carouses Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route The Dune of Carouses

This route is quite straightforward; however, players should make sure to use the right teleport point, since many of the nearby teleport points are actually underground. By doing so, they can find multiple groups of fungi scattered across the route. Additionally, players can also pick up some fungi groups east of the Statue of Seven and other fungi by heading south from the northeast teleport point on the map.

Safte Shatranj Fungi Farming Route

Genshin Impact_ Fungi Farming Route Safte Shatranj

This is another straightforward route with multiple groups of fungi quickly accessible from the nearby teleport points.

Players should note that there are still plenty of fungi to be found in other areas of the desert, including Desert of Hadramaveth and Girdle of Sands. However, many of them are too scattered to make an efficient farming route. Nevertheless, these farming routes should give players the opportunity to find over 250 fungi effectively.
