One of the creatures people can see in Genshin Impact is a dragon. The species include famous names like Dvalin and Durin. While both may be dragons, they're extremely different in a lot of ways. Other than Dvalin and Durin, there's also Ursa the Drake. However, Ursa will not be included in this article as it's not related to Durin, unlike Dvalin.
The name Durin was first heard in Genshin Impact 1.2, when Albedo tells the story of a dragon in the snowy mountains. There, the story unfolds that Albedo and Durin are "brothers". But this wasn't fully explained until one year later in Version 2.3. So far, here's everything we know about Durin.
Made By Gold
Just like Albedo, Durin too is the creation of Rhinedottir. This Khaenri'ahalchemist is more widely known for her alias, Gold. Gold is known to be a person of great ambition and knowledge. This even results in a lot of catastrophic creations, like the Genshin Impact's Golden Wolflord.
Now, Gold's whereabouts are pretty much unknown. However, before she disappeared, Rhinedottir told Albedo to uncover the truth of the world. Unfortunately, as brilliant as he is, Albedo still hasn't figured this task out.
Swallowed The Impostor Albedo
Albedo, as we all know, is a Homunculus. He's a synthetic, made-up human. He and Durin are considered Rhinedottir's greatest feat. However, of course, the process of creation wasn't easy, even for such an accomplished alchemist.
The first version of Albedo was considered a failure. Because of this, Gold left the specimen inside Durin's stomach, one that'd stay there for many years to come, until one day, it broke out and tried to eliminate the real Albedo.
This exciting event can be seen in Genshin Impact 2.3, where Travelers can dive further into Albedo's background.
Is Actually A Soft Creature
While Durin is often portrayed as a menacing creature, he's actually very soft at heart. In one of Venti's cutscenes, the Anemo Archon tells the story of how Durin creates a catastrophe in Teyvat. Eventually, he and Dvalin have to join power to defeat this gigantic dragon.
However, despite all that, all Durin ever wanted was to befriend the bard and the blue dragon. Even in his last moment, Durin longed for another life, one where he and the other two would sing and dance, along with the people of the land of freedom. This story can be found in the description of Dragonspine Spear.
Corrupted Dvalin
While it is unknown how exactly Durin's blood was able to corrupt Dvalin, we do know that the blue dragon bit Durin's neck to kill it. The venomous blood likely entered Dvalin's body at this moment.
Later on, the dragon became known as the Stormterror, one that'd hurt the citizens of Mondstadt, instead of protecting them. After years of slumber, Dvalin wakes up just to see that the people no longer recognize him. And when he sought for Barbatos' comfort, the Archon too, wasn't around. This results in Stormterror being misled and was easily manipulated by the Abyss Order.
Revived Frostbearing Tree
However, corrupting is not the only thing Durin's blood is capable of. This curious creature even has the power to revive and create lives. For example, when Celestia decided to destroy the ancient civilizations of Sal Vindagnyr, the crimson tree died along with it. However, after Durin's blood soaked into the mountain, it was powerful enough to bring the Frostbearing Tree back to life, despite having been dead for eons.
Not only that, but after the first Albedo broke free from Durin's stomach, he uses the dragon's blood to create another lifeform, the Fellflower. It's a highly mutated version of Cryo Whopperflower.
