In Genshin Impact, players are given the freedom to compose various team compositions. Many prefer experimenting with some unique options, while the others choose to give in to the meta compositions.

However, meta isn’t only bound to specific characters like the Genshin Impact Morgana team comp. Some units are also meta simply thanks to their flexibility, where they can either offer various things for their team or can work perfectly without specific teammates. When it comes to characters that can work in any team composition, here are some of the best contenders.

8 Bennett

Genshin Impact character Bennett

Ever since Genshin Impact players figured out how good Bennett is, he has been inseparable from most of Travelers' parties. This is no surprise as the Unlucky Adventurer can offer so much to the team.

Bennett's Elemental Burst is mostly adored for the attack buff it provides. The massive buff can bring a character to a whole new level, allowing some DPS to easily clear out the hardest floor of the Spiral Abyss. By far, the unit that can fully benefit from Bennett's attack buff is Genshin Impact Xiangling.

7 Albedo

Albedo thinking of the impostor

Albedo is one of the best off-field DPS in Genshin Impact, and after the release of his free sword, Cinnabar Spindle, the Chalk Prince becomes twice better. To play him, Travelers only have to cast his Elemental Skill and then swap him out. When the enemy gets damaged inside his AoE, Albedo's Skill will also deal Geo damage.

Because Albedo is simply meant to deal off-field damage, he can easily fit in any team composition. However, the most popular way of using him is to pair Albedo with Zhongli to trigger the Geo Resonance.

6 Zhongli

Genshin Impact character Zhongli

When it comes to flexible characters, there's no one more flexible than Zhongli. The Geo Archon offers top-tier protection against pretty much any damage in Genshin Impact, so if players aren't a fan of understanding the enemies' attack patterns and dodging, they can simply utilize Zhongli's assistance.

With Zhongli's unbreakable shield, any DPS can mindlessly brute force the enemies in front of them. Furthermore, the Geo Archon also allows the DPS to deal higher damage. This is thanks to the resistance reduction that comes with his shield.

5 Healers

Sangonomiya Kokomi from Genshin Impact

When Travelers are creating their team, it's a common practice to include a healer or a shielder. Without them, a battle will be quite dangerous as there won't be any insurance if things ever go wrong. Because of this, healers are among the most flexible characters in Genshin Impact.

Ever since the release of Ocean-Hued Clam, some healers can even double as an off-field DPS. The best examples of this would be Sangonomiya Kokomi and Qiqi.

4 Ganyu

Ganyu aiming her bow in Genshin Impact

Many great DPS in Genshin Impact requires a rather specific team composition. For example, Hu Tao only performs best with Xingqiu by her side, while Xiao can’t function without a Battery. However, this is not at all the case with Ganyu. The Qilin can perform amazingly even without a dedicated team.

Not only that, but Ganyu can also take on several different roles, where she can be both Main DPS and Sub-DPS. As a Sub-DPS, the Adeptus can endlessly deal Cryo damage in a large AoE. Ganyu also has a 100% uptime on her Elemental Burst, allowing her to do this job without a break.

3 Raiden Shogun

It's a bit hard to believe that many people used to think that Raiden Shogun is underwhelming. A few versions after her release, the Electro Archon is still one of the top used characters in Genshin Impact. Not only is Raiden a powerful Sub-DPS, but she is also an excellent support.

Raiden Shogun's Elemental Skill offers endless Electro application while enhancing her team's Elemental Burst damage. Meanwhile, the Electro Archon Ultimate doesn't only deal massive damage, but it also regenerates the team's Energy. The utility offered by Raiden Shogun allows her to be the +1 on various team compositions.

2 Yae Miko

Even though the Guuji has a lot of issues in her kit, her role is pretty much straightforward. Yae Miko is simply meant to be used as an off-field DPS, similar to Albedo. Unfortunately, unlike the Chalk Prince, Miko doesn't offer much other than some extra damage. Due to how demanding her Elemental Burst is, she's also reliant on a Battery.

Nevertheless, if players are simply looking for a +1, Yae Miko can be a decent candidate.

1 Xiangling

Xiangling and the MC

Xiangling is probably the only starter character that remains as the fans' favorite. Players can obtain her at the start of Genshin Impact by finishing the third floor of the Spiral Abyss.

Even at C0, the Liyue Chef can provide a lot of damage for her team. Xiangling's Pyronado has a large AoE, great damage, and can always trigger Elemental Reactions. If she casts her Elemental Burst on top of Bennett's Inspiration Field, her Ultimate will snapshot, benefiting from Bennett's attack buff even after his healing field disappears. If players have two slots empty, the combination of Bennett and Xiangling isn't only deadly, but they will also trigger the Pyro Resonance.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
