Ascension | |||
The first Hydro polearm user added to Genshin Impact is Candace, a four-star character from Sumeru. She's a fierce warrior and proud defender of her people, and she's a fun addition to any team.
If players are hoping to use Candace in combat, they'll need to ascend her and upgrade her talents to reach her full potential. To do both of those things, the following materials will be needed!
Leveling Materials
Every Genshin Impact character uses the same amount of EXP and Mora between each ascension level, totaling over 8 million EXP and almost 2 million Mora by the time they reach the max level of 90. Here's how much is needed between each of Candace's ascension levels, as well as the specific totals.
Level | EXP | Mora |
---|---|---|
1-20 | 120,175 | 24,200 |
20-40 | 578,325 | 115,800 |
40-50 | 579,100 | 116,000 |
50-60 | 854,125 | 171,000 |
60-70 | 1,195,925 | 239,200 |
70-80 | 1,611,875 | 322,400 |
80-90 (max) | 3,423,125 | 684,800 |
Totals: | 8,362,650 EXP | 1,673,400 Mora |
Candace Ascension Items
Candace is a Hydro character, so players will need to seek out Varunada Lazurite to ascend her. She'll also use some items that were released in 3.1, just like she was, as well as some common items dropped by Eremites in Sumeru.

Gemstones - Where to Find Varunada Lazurite
All Hydro characters need Varunada Lazurite, which is their specific elemental gem. There are quite a few ways to find each of the elemental gems, but boss rewards are the most reliable. The following bosses can reward Varunada Lazurite;
- Rhodeia of Loch
- Hydro Hypostasis
- Primo Geovishap*
- Aeonblight Drake
- Iniquitous Baptist
- Hydro Tulpa
- Childe (Enter the Golden House)
- Azhdaha (Beneath the Dragon Queller)*
- Dvalin (Confront Stormterror)
- Scaramouche (Joururi Workshop)
- All-Devouring Narwhal (Shadow of Another World)
*Both the Primo Geovishap and Azhdaha can only drop Varunada Lazurite when they are infused with Hydro.

Enemy Drop - Where to Find Eremite Red Cloths
Eremites are known to cover their eyes with decorated red cloths, and these cloths will be amongst the items they drop when defeated. This is the common ascension material Candace uses in her ascension.
Higher-level Eremites can drop better quality cloths, as follows:
- Any level: Faded Red Satin
- Level 40+: Trimmed Red Silk
- Level 60+: Rich Red Brocade
Boss Drop - How to Get Light Guiding Tetrahedron
A boss found in the desert of Sumeru is the strange Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network. This boss, which seems similar to Inazuma's Perpetual Mechanical Array, has a unique drop called a Light Guiding Tetrahedron. This is the boss item that Candace's ascension requires.
Local Specialty - Where to Find Henna Berries
Another item added alongside Candace in Genshin Impact 3.1 is a local specialty of Sumeru. The Henna Berry (formerly known as Redcrest) is a red plant found dotted around the desert and is used to ascend Candace. She'll need 168 of these red fruits in total.
Candace Talent Materials
Hang on to any extra Eremites cloths, as Candace also needs them for her talent upgrades. Additionally, she'll need everything else in this table:

Talent Books - Admonition
Candace joins some other Sumeru characters in using the Admonition series of talent books. These can be obtained from the Steeple of Ignorance domain on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Trounce Materials - Tears of the Calamitous God
Many of the first characters released in Sumeru use a trounce material from Inazuma, specifically, the materials dropped by the Shogun in the End of the Oneiric Euthymia domain. For Candace, the material needed is the Tears of the Calamitous God.
