Genshin Impact's new character, Thoma, may live in Inazuma, but he originally came from Mondstadt. Now, he's known as "The Fixer" in the Electro Region, thanks to his talent for helping people. This skill also translates to his ability in housekeeping, where his work is appreciated even by the Kamisato Clan, a powerful family in Inazuma.

Thoma bears the title Protector from Afar, which can be seen in his combat talents. The Pyro Polearm character is playable in Genshin Impact 2.2, featured along with Hu Tao in her rerun banner. Similar to Diona, Thoma will be a shield Support that scales with HP.

Thoma's Talent Overview

Thoma' Talent Overview

Thoma's Normal Attack is a typical support type. It has a low multiplier, which means players shouldn't use them. As for his Elemental Skill, it's similar to Diona, where he generates a Pyro shield with a one-time cleanse. However, unlike the Feline Bartender, Thoma's shield has an extra feature when his Elemental Burst is active.

For his Elemental Burst, Thoma continuously creates Fiery Collapse, damaging enemies in a small AOE every 1s. This skill is triggered when the active character uses their Normal Attack. Other than that, when an enemy gets hit, Thoma also grants the active character a shield.

This shield can stack with his Elemental Skill and it refreshes the duration. With Thoma's second Constellation and enough Energy Recharge, the Housekeeper can have a 100% uptime on his Pyro shield. Unfortunately, he has a high demand for Energy. Thoma won't be able to fill his own burst without extra Energy Recharge.

Best Artifacts For Thoma

Thoma using Emblem of Severed Fate

Thoma can either be built as a shielder or a damage dealer. This is what players would want for each role:

Shielder Thoma Build

For the shielder build, players should focus solely on HP. Other than that, Energy Recharge will be a massive help to handle his Energy issue.

Artifact Main Stat:

  • Timepiece: Energy Recharge or HP
  • Goblet: HP
  • Headwear: HP

Sub Stat focus:

  • HP
  • Energy Recharge

Artifact Set:

  1. 2-Emblem of Severed Fate + 2-Tenacity of the Millelith
  2. 2-Noblesse Oblige + 2-Tenacity of the Millelith
  3. 2-Crimson Witch of Flames + 2-Tenacity of the Millelith

Players should remember that Retracing Bolide is not a viable choice for Thoma. The Shield Strength bonus is only applied to characters equipping the artifact, so it won't transfer to another character if Thoma uses Retracing Bolide.

Sub-DPS Thoma Build

Even though he gains a damage bonus off his HP, it's not very optimal for damage. At the end of the day, Attack is a better choice for a Sub-DPS build.

Artifact Main Stat:

  • Timepiece: Energy Recharge or Attack
  • Goblet: Pyro DMG Bonus
  • Headwear: Critical Rate or Critical Damage

Sub Stat focus:

  • Critical Rate
  • Critical Damage
  • Energy Recharge
  • Attack

Artifact Set:

  1. 4-Emblem of Severed Fate
  2. 2-Emblem of Severed Fate + 2-Noblesse Oblige
  3. 2-Noblesse Oblige + 2-Crimson Witch of Flames
  4. 2-Noblesse Oblige + 2-Tenacity of the Millelith
  5. 2-Crimson Witch of Flames + 2-Tenacity of the Millelith

4 pieces of Emblem of Severed Fate will help increase Thoma's Energy Recharge while enhancing his Elemental Burst at the same time. This set easily outnumbered all the other options.

Best Weapons For Thoma

Genshin Impact Thoma with Staff of Homa

For Thoma's best weapon, there are two types of focus: Energy Recharge (ER) or HP.

Thoma desperately needs ER to function, so these weapons are an amazing choice:

  1. Engulfing Lightning
  2. The Catch
  3. Skyward Spine
  4. Favonius Lance
  5. Prototype Starglitter

Engulfing Lightning is easily Thoma's best-in-slot for damage. Surprisingly, Skyward Spine is outperformed by The Catch, a F2P weapon best fit for support characters. However, if players can't spare The Catch for Thoma, then Favonius Lance and Prototype Starglitter are viable alternatives.

If players want to focus solely on HP, then they can use either of these:

  1. Staff of Homa
  2. Black Tassel

Staff of Homa is viable for damage dealing, but players will need a lot of Energy Recharge for Homa to keep up with Engulfing Lightning. As for Black Tassel, the 3-star weapon offers a bulky amount of HP. However, players can't rely on this Polearm to deal damage.

Other Weapons For Thoma

Additionally, there are some weapons that need to be mentioned.

These two weapons are viable, but much less recommended than the rest:

  • Wavebreaker's Fin
  • Deathmatch

While for these ones, players should refrain from using them on Thoma:

  • Primordial Jade Winged-Spear
  • Blackcliff Pole
  • Kitain Cross Spear
  • Dragon's Bane

Both Primordial Jade and Blackcliff Pole are reliant on their stack, making them far less viable for Thoma. The Housekeeper triggers Elemental Reaction once every three Fiery Collapse hits, so Elemental Mastery is not so bad. However, since Thoma is hungry for Energy, Kitain Cross Spear and Dragon's Bane are out shadowed by the other weapons.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
