Bennett is lauded as one of the best support characters in Genshin Impact. His Elemental Burst is crucial for boosting a team’s attack power but is also useful for characters with low HP. So, despite his 4-Star status, Bennett is among the most sought-after characters in the game.

That said, there’s much more to Bennett’s character than his usefulness in battle. Though the Genshin Impact community views him as an excellent support character, his personal life tells a very different story.

Bennett, a Gift to the Adventurer’s Guild

Genshin Impact Pyro Bennett Sword

It’s unknown who Bennett’s biological parents are. An adventurer from the guild in Mondstadt simply found him at the end of a long and arduous journey through “hell on earth.” Where this place is located in Genshin Impact isn’t specified. It’s only explained that the adventurer had to go through scorching flames, howling winds, and deafening thunder. This adventurer was the first to make it through the perilous area, and at the end of it all, he didn’t find gold nor valuable artifacts, but an infant.

The adventurer took the ailing baby in his arms, thinking to himself that this was a child that the world, itself, had abandoned. Nonetheless, the adventurer took the infant home, believing the boy to be the treasure he was meant to find. Unfortunately, this adventurer died before he could tell his story, uttering only four words before he slipped away: will, adventure, and final treasure. As of now, it’s unknown how these words come into play in the story of Genshin Impact.

Regardless, the Mondstadt Adventurers’ Guild took the infant in as their own. This child would then grow up to be Bennett. When Bennett wasn’t adventuring, he was caring for his many dads, who’d grown old without any partners or children from all their adventuring. He was a treasure to them, even though he had a strange quirk — one that’s prominently featured in Bennett’s Genshin Impact talents.

Benny’s Adventure Team in Genshin Impact

Bennett was, for all accounts and purposes, a good kid. He took care of his family and was kind to everyone he met, but he wasn’t a very good adventurer by Genshin Impact’s standards. This was primarily because of his bad luck, which seemed to follow him wherever he went. Though this never stopped him from going out on adventures, it did ruin a few friendships for him.

When Bennett was old enough to go adventuring on his own, he registered “Benny’s Adventure Team” in the Mondstadt Adventurers’ Guild of Genshin Impact. At first, Bennett led the team with three other people — Jack, Heckler, and Royce. However, they all left after some type of misfortune befell them, and each of them believed it had something to do with Bennett’s bad luck — which it did. Bennett had no idea that his team members had abandoned him, so he begged Katheryne not to invalidate his team’s registration.

Katheryne was well aware that Bennett’s former teammates wouldn’t show up anytime soon, so she made a special exception for Benny’s Adventure Team. Every team registered to the guild required at least three or four regular members to be approved. However, she allowed Bennett to keep his team, even though he was its only regular member. And even though he was alone, Bennett never lost his passion for adventure.

One day, Bennett found himself in a precarious situation, similar to that of the old adventurer who found him. Despite sustaining plenty of wounds and losing a fair amount of blood, Bennett kept going. However, when he finally got to the end of the journey, there wasn’t any treasure waiting for him — as usual. Seeing this, the fatigue and exasperation overwhelmed Bennett, and he fainted. This surely would have killed him as he was still bleeding, but he later woke up saw that his wounds had somehow cauterized. This was how Bennett got his Pyro abilities in Genshin Impact — a Vision suited for an adventurer with a burning passion.

Bennett and Bad Luck

Bennett

Ever since Bennett became aware of his bad luck, he’s been determined to use his bad luck to help others. He believes that it isn’t contagious, so as long as his companions don’t stick too close to him, they’ll be fine. Bennett’s even willing to set off traps and distract enemies so that his Genshin Impact teammates can grab the treasure. He’s used to getting injured, after all.

He’s grown so accustomed to injury partly because of his bad luck but also because of his fighting style. According to Varka, Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius, Bennett’s combat style “shows a complete disregard for his own safety.” In fact, Bennett’s Elemental Skill in Genshin Impact ends with him launching himself into the air. If the player isn’t careful, Bennett could accidentally throw himself off a cliff. This is probably why he visits Barbara so often in the Church of Favonius to get his wounds treated.

Despite Bennett’s bad luck (both with adventuring and friendship), he’s made quite a few friends in Mondstadt. Aside from Barbara, he sometimes goes adventuring with Razor, whom he gets along with because they both like eating meat. There’s also Fischl, whom he looks up to for her supposedly otherworldly origins. Lastly is Klee, though Bennett admits that he has to keep his distance from her because her bombs tend to go off in his hands. The player can also become friends with him through his Genshin Impact Hangout Event.

Overall, it seems Bennett’s luck is looking up, even if it’s just a bit. He’s starting to get a hang of his quirk, which certainly helps when finding ways to work around it. And though Benny’s Adventure Team still doesn’t have regular members, the unlucky adventurer has found plenty of people to depend on — be it his many dads or his other friends in Mondstadt. Plus, should the player pull him from Genshin Impact’s Wish Banners, he can adventure with the Traveler and get plenty of treasure.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
