The seven elements of Teyvat play a major part in developing Genshin Impact. They help shape how each nation looks, each character's personality, and how the combat system works. While most of the seven, including Anemo, Geo, Electro, Dendro, Hydro, Pyro, and Cryo, are well developed, one in particular, has not seen the same love as the other six.

As of version 2.4, Dendro has not yet had a playable character released. Yet, given how the Dendro nation of Sumeru is the next in Genshin Impact's storyline, the element is expected to develop rapidly in the next few updates. Yet, despite its lack of attention, there are quite a few facts known about the element of Dendro. Here's what players should know before heading into Sumeru.

4 Dendro Is The Element Of Plants

Each element in Genshin Impact represents an integral part of the natural world: Cryo correlates to ice, Anemo to wind, etc. As for Dendro, it represents life and the element of plants. As such, players can expect the element to look similar to Geo, which also focuses on a concrete element representing earth, featuring structures made on plant-like materials.

The only way of viewing the element of Dendro in-game at the moment is through Dendro opponents. There are several enemies in Genshin Impact that use Dendro: mainly Dendro Samachurls and Dendro Slimes, as well as to a lesser extent in the case of Wooden Shield Hilichurls. Most prominently, Dendro Samachurls feature several Dendro-based attacks, including an area-of-effect that applies the element to the player, as well as vine-like walls that function much like a Geo construct. Similar attacks can likely be expected for playable characters using Dendro in the future.

As for Dendro application, it does not appear to have any special effects like Cryo's speed reduction. In this way, Dendro works much like Pyro, in which it is solely a catalyst for elemental reactions with other elements.

3 Sumeru Is The Homeland Of Dendro's God

After Inazuma, Sumeru is the next nation to play a part in Genshin Impact's plot. For players who may not know, Sumeru is the home of the God of Wisdom, and the Archon represents the element Dendro. While life in Sumeru main surrounds the Academia, the element of Dendro will also influence how the nation looks.

Generally speaking, Sumeru is a nation filled with a mix of rainforests and deserts. Players can expect the rainforests to be filled with Dendro opponents, much like Inazuma with Electro opponents.

2 Dendro Has One Known Elemental Reaction

Given the lack of Dendro characters in Genshin Impact, there is currently a major lack of knowledge about what elemental reactions are created by the element. Dendro does not have a confirmed elemental resonance or a full list of elemental reactions. So far, there is only one elemental reaction confirmed in the element of Dendro — burning.

Burning reactions are created when Dendro meets Pyro, as has been confirmed by using Pyro characters against Dendro Samachurls. This elemental reaction causes a continuous amount of damage over a certain timeframe, which absolutely decimates opponents (and players) that come in contact with it.

There are a lot of possibilities that come with the lack of other reactions with Dendro. While it is possible that the element will only have one reaction, it is also possible that the effects of other elements will tie into it as well. Players may see a Dendro reaction that behaves like Geo's crystallize reaction, in that it is more defensive/supportive than offensive. Many fans speculate that Dendro will also have a poison-like reaction with Hydro. However, players will have to wait until a playable Dendro character is released to be sure.

1 Dendro's Known Characters

While Dendro has no playable characters currently available, there are a variety of known Dendro characters in Genshin Impact. Two of the most prominent are located in Liyue — Baizhu and Yaoyao.

Baizhu is the currently head of the Bubu Pharmacy and is the legal guardian of Qiqi. His desire for knowledge is appropriate for the element of the God of Wisdom, as he is obsessed in his quest for eternal life. Baizhu's Dendro vision can be seen during his appearance in the game's story quest hanging from his belt.

As for the seconded teased Dendro user, Yaoyao was first seen in promotional art with Qiqi during the Moonchase Festival event. For those who are unaware, Yaoyao is the assistant of Ganyu in the Liyue Qixing, and a talented cook that competed with Xiangling before her career as a secretarial assistant. Part of Yaoyao's Dendro vision can be seen in the official artwork from the Moonchase Festival event, as a red ribbon hanging from her basket.

Currently, Baizhu and Yaoyao do not have confirmed release dates. Fans can only speculate when the characters will be available (if at all), and no potential leaks have been released as of version 2.4. Nonetheless, given that Sumeru is the next region set to release in Genshin Impact, players should look forward to more information on Dendro playable characters in the near future.

Genshin Impact is currently available to play on mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
