The release of Version 4.1 of Genshin Impact introduced players to the Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Engineering, more loosely known as the Fontaine Research Institute. As a region once known to be a paradise for researchers from all walks of life-the area is now in ruins due to overzealous ambitions.

The terrain is significantly different as compared to previous patches due to the Allogravity-Condensed Water Bodies that float above the ruins. However, Genshin Impact has maintained its clever way of testing players' visual cues and exploration skills with its witty hidden chests. Long-time players already know the eye-rolling moments when obtaining a chest that primarily doesn’t look like one and the momentary burst of satisfaction that they feel.

Here are some hidden chests that travelers might have missed out on during exploration simply because they were either hard to spot or looked too random to result in a chest.

Hidden Chest #1

Many players will most likely recognize this hidden chest, as the ‘fruit in the tree’ trick was also once seen over in Mondstat. However, though this is potentially the easiest hidden chest in the region, there is a chance for players to deem it as a glitch. Travelers need only teleport to the waypoint at the New Fontaine Research Institute and head west.

Once players exit the building and turn slightly towards their left, they should be able to spot the Bulle Fruit up on the tree. Climbing the tree and clicking on the fruit will reward them with a Common Chest and 2 Primogems.

Hidden Chest #2

This next chest is also a little tricky as it can sometimes go unnoticed for being a regular enemy. There is a group of Anemo slimes floating around some trees south of the region. Travelers can teleport to the westernmost waypoint in the region and head south up the mountain. At the base of the next mountain, there will be a group of trees with the Anemo slimes floating above. Shooting each slime will award players with an Exquisite Chest and 5 Primogems.

Hidden Chest #3

Teleport to the waypoint southeast of the Experimental Field Generator and head northeast towards the above location. Players will find numerous trees with Bulle Fruits lying on the ground. If they pick up all the fruits in the vicinity, this will award them an Exquisite Chest.

However, players should note that a group of Treasure Hoarders will spawn once they get closer to the chest. After defeating them, travelers can get the usual 5 Primogems from the chest.

Hidden Chest #4

Teleport to the Central Laboratory Ruins and head to the westernmost cube. There will be several rocks inside the water, and one of them will have a shining spot. Unfortunately, this shining spot is a bit unusual and cannot be interacted with. Travelers simply need to swim close to the spot and wait for the light to dissipate and sparkle on the next rock. Follow the sparkle until the end, and it will give players a Common Chest and 2 Primogems.

Players should be careful when following the shining spot as the rocks come too close to the edge, and players could fall out of the Allogravity Condensed Water Body.

Hidden Chest #5

This hidden chest is located at the top of a mountain near the Statue of Seven in the middle of the Fontaine Research Institute Region. If players teleport to the Statue of Seven and head east, they will need to climb to the mountain’s peak. There, travelers can find a Pyro barrel. It would be easier to carry a bow unit in the team so that players don’t get knocked off the peak once the barrel explodes. Once done, this will award players an Exquisite Chest and 5 Primogems.

Hidden Chest #6

This final chest will have players teleporting to the underwater waypoint north of the Experimental Field Generator Boss. Travelers should head west and keep close to the seabed, as they will need to swim in a straight line until they reach the submerged underwater tower. Beneath the tower, there will be a bunch of cans scattered around the seafloor. Travelers will have to break all the cans to receive an Exquisite Chest and the 5 Primogems with it.

Additionally, players should also remember that there are some cans hidden behind a rock nearby which will have to be broken. The rock and the cans can be broken using the Xenochromatic Jellyfish’s ability which can be found swimming in the vicinity.

Although most of these chests can go unnoticed, it is also vital for players to keep an eye out for things that look out of the ordinary, as they can bring great rewards and exploration benefits.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4 and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
