Team planning makes for one of the most important components in Genshin Impact. From planning for elemental reactions, exploration characters with unique passive abilities, and of course, including the player's most beloved characters, carefully picking each character has impressive benefits.
However, Genshin Impact players often miss the importance of one team component in particular — elemental resonances. Proving the player's team with unique boosts and an elemental status resistance, pairing more than one character of the same element is something that Genshin Impact players need to consider. However, more common than not, players are unaware of the specific benefits of each elemental resonance.
Updated on March 8, 2023, by Nahda Nabiilah: The release of Dendro in Genshin Impact increases the available resonances, where playing at least two Dendro characters in the team will trigger the effect. Other than that, Hydro resonance also got modified, where it turns from being a niche effect to one of the best resonances in the game. Having two Hydro users in a Hu Tao team composition, for example, enhances her HP by 25%, which is massive for all her kit. Same with having two Pyro users with a DPS like Xiao or Diluc, buffing their ATK by 25% will notably improve their gameplay and DMG.
Overview - Elemental Resonance In Genshin Impact
Generally speaking, Genshin Impact players receive the benefits of an elemental resonance when more than one character on a team uses the same element. There are exceptions (as will be explored in the article) but this is the general mechanics at work; every character on the team benefits from any resonances applied.
Of course, Genshin Impact fans will need to think strategically about using resonances. For example, players can use a resonance to boost an area where they are lacking, like Pyro resonance to increase ATK and Hydro resonance to add HP.
Players can also have more than one elemental resonance in Genshin Impact . To do so, they simply need to make a team consisting of two characters from one element and two from another.
Four Different Elements - Protective Canopy
- Effect: All Elemental RES +15%, Physical RES +15%.
The most basic elemental resonance in Genshin Impact is the Protective Canopy. This elemental resonance can be activated whenever the player has a team of four unique elements, making it a good beginning resonance for players still getting used to the game.
Anemo Resonance - Impetuous Winds
- Effect: Decreases Stamina Consumption by 15% and Skill cooldown by 5%. Movement SPD +10%.
The first element for all Travelers in the game, Anemo resonance is perhaps the second most common beginner's resonance (outside of maybe Pyro or Cryo.) Impetuous Winds is the best resonance for exploration, especially when paired with characters that have an extra effect.
For example, Genshin Impact Wanderer can effortlessly traverse through the map even faster with this resonance. If players add Dehya and Rosaria to the team, the exploration speed will increase even more.
Cryo Resonance - Shattering Ice
- Effect: Affected by Electro for 40% less time. +15% CRIT Rate against enemies that are Frozen or affected by Cryo.
With one of the most common elements in the game, Cryo's resonance is well-loved among the community. This is mostly to how overpowered the permafreeze team is, especially in a Genshin Impact Morgana team comp.
Electro Resonance - High Voltage
- Effect: Affected by Hydro for 40% less time. Superconduct, Overloaded, Electro-Charged, Quicken, Aggravate, or Hyperbloom have a 100% chance to generate an Electro Elemental Particle (CD: 5s).
Considering Electro characters are always adept at generating Energy, Electro resonance is likely one of the worst elemental resonances in Genshin Impact. For example, although she's Energy-hungry, Raiden Shogun can play just fine even without this resonance since her whole kit revolves around charging Energy. The same case can be seen in other units like Razor and Kujou Sara. Meanwhile, for some other Electro characters like Lisa, the resonance is not enough to help with her Energy issue; one Electro particle with 5s CD is not helpful enough.
One good thing about the High Voltage is that the resonance reduces the time players are affected by Hydro, making freezing and Electro-Charged troubles less common.
Geo Resonance - Enduring Rock
- Effect: Shield strength +15%. Additionally, characters protected by a shield will have the following special characteristics: DMG dealt +15%, dealing DMG to enemies will decrease their Geo RES by 20% for 15s.
Geo elemental resonance in Genshin Impact is arguably better than Pyro resonance in terms of its effect, but not so much in practicality. If players manage to bring two Geo characters and one dedicated shielder, then they can enjoy a boost in both offense and defense, where a 15% DMG bonus will prove to be crucial.
Hydro Resonance - Soothing Water
- Effect: Affected by Pyro for 40% less time. Max HP +25%.
The old Hydro resonance in Genshin Impact boosts incoming healing, but it's later changed to increasing HP. Of course, the new effect is far more useful than the former, especially since many characters can benefit from an HP boost. For example, players can now play Hu Tao + Xingqiu + Yelan + Zhongli, a team where all of its units can make great use of HP.
Pyro Resonance - Fervent Flames
- Effect: Affected by Cryo for 40% less time. ATK +25%.
While both healing and defense are vital skill areas, DPS is still the name of the game in Genshin Impact. For players looking to fully optimize their offensive prowess, then Pyro resonance is going to be one of the best choices. This type of resonance is ideal for players either looking to optimize the attack of an existing heavy hitter or for teams with underdeveloped offensive characters.
Dendro Resonance - Sprawling Greenery
- Effect: Elemental Mastery +50. After triggering Burning, Quicken, or Bloom reactions, all nearby party members gain 30 Elemental Mastery for 6s. After triggering Aggravate, Spread, Hyperbloom, or Burgeon reactions, all nearby party members gain 20 Elemental Mastery for 6s. The durations of the aforementioned effects will be counted independently.
Dendro Resonance heavily increases Elemental Mastery (EM), which makes sense since the element revolves around Dendro elemental reaction in Genshin Impact. Players will automatically gain 50 EM when the requirement is fulfilled, then they can get up to 50 more while triggering the required reactions.
