Genshin Impact brings a variety of different enemies that players will come across through their journey in Teyvat. As far as the Abyss enemies go, Abyss mages are one of the first enemies players will encounter, and consequently, they are present in all currently available regions.
As of now, Abyss Mages come in 4 different elemental variants with their respective elemental shields which players will need to break by using another element before they can defeat them. Once defeated, Abyss Mages will drop materials of different rarities based on the World Level and some luck, and these materials are Dead Ley Line Branches, Dead Ley Line Leaves, and lastly Ley Line Sprouts, which are used as Weapon Ascension Materials, primarily for Skyward Series among other weapons in Genshin Impact. Abyss Mages might also drop some artifact set pieces up to 4-star rarity.
Abyss Mage Locations in Mondstadt
Most Abyss Mages in Mondstadt are located near Dadaupa Gorge and in Dragonspine. It's important to note that some of the Abyss Mages in this region only spawn as part of a puzzle and will not respawn once they are defeated.
Abyss Mages in Dragonspine
For the first set of Abyss Mages, players can simply head towards the ground level under the cliff from the nearby teleport points to come across two Abyss mages who are initially protecting a chest.
The second set of Abyss Mages is located near the north teleport point near Wyrmrest Valley, and they will spawn once players step foot on the mini-island nearby.
Players can also find another set of Abyss Mages in Dragonspine's western part where it connects to Liyue; however, these Abyss Mages will only spawn once as part of a pressure pad puzzle and will not respawn once defeated.
Abyss Mages in Dadaupa Gorge
Moving out from Dragonspine, there is another Abyss Mage near the Dragonspine Camp teleport location. Additionally, from the Dadaupa Gorge teleport point, players can head southwest to find another Abyss Mage. There is one last Abyss Mage even further southwest, above the hills. However, for this last Mage in this area, players will need to light up the three bonfires first. Once defeated, it will not respawn as it is part of a puzzle.
Abyss Mages in Other Mondstadt Locations
Players can find other Abyss Mages at:
- Lake (east) near the Thousand Winds Temple Teleport Point
- West of Windwail Highlands
- Top of a hill near central part Stormterror's Lair
- North of eastern teleport point at Stormterror's Lair. (This Abyss Mage spawns near the exquisite chest and will not respawn)
Abyss Mage Locations in Liyue
Compared to Mondstadt, players will come across significantly more Abyss Mages in Liyue, which are mostly easily accessible through nearby teleport points. Similarly, some of these Abyss Mages only spawn once, primarily upon lighting Bonfires.
Abyss Mage Locations North Liyue
There aren't many Abyss Mages on the north side of Liyue, with respawning Abyss mages being located to the east of Stone Gate. Considering that it takes a while to go to these locations, unless in dire need, players may consider skipping them during their farming routes. There is also another Abyss Mage who spawns after lighting up all 4 bonfires at the plains in the southwest of Sal Terrae, and this one will not respawn.
Abyss Mage Locations East Liyue
Players will come across Abyss Mages in Guili Plains, Yaoguang Shoal (the southern one is a bonfire puzzle), and primarily at Guyun Stone Forest near the Artifact Domain Teleport Point. Players can find three of the Abyss Mages by going up the hill from the cave exit of the domain entrance, and one at sea level.
Abyss Mage Locations South Liyue
All the Abyss Mages in this area are easily accessible through nearby teleport points, making it an excellent farming location due to its convenience.
Abyss Mage Locations West Liyue
Similar to the South Liyue, most of the Abyss Mages in this area are easily reachable (primarily following a path from Tianqiu Valley through Jueyun Pass), however there are also additional Abyss Mages at other parts of this section as can be seen on the map above.
Abyss Mage Locations in Inazuma
Inazuma has a similar number of farmable Abyss Mages compared to Liyue. Interestingly, however, there are no Abyss Mages in Seirai and Yashiori Islands, while there is only one on Narukami Island. Most of them are located in the Kannazuka and Tsurumi Islands. This is also the first region where the Electro Abyss Mages have been introduced.
Abyss Mage Locations in Kannazuka Island
Abyss Mages in this location are primarily found at the shores or waters near Tatarasuna, except the Cryo and Electro Abyss Mages on the north of the Kujou Encampment. While most spots are easily accessible though near teleport points, players require to use a Waverider to reach the Electro Abyss mage on the east rock formation, where players can catch the unique Raimei Fish.
Abyss Mage Locations in Tsurumi Island
In Tsurumi Island, most Abyss Mages are near the base of Mt. Kanna, allowing players to easily follow a route from the eastern teleport point towards the west. The last Abyss Mage can be accessed through the island's Statue of Seven by heading towards the north. It's important to note that players may notice different groups spawning near the Mt. Kanna teleport point on different days.
Abyss Mages in Other Inazuma Locations
Players can find other Abyss Mages at:
- Chinju Forest Lake at Narukami Island
- On water structures near an island formation west of Asase Shrine Waverider Point at Seirai Island
- Below the Watatsumi Island Palace (Northwest from the nearest teleport point)
- Two Abyss Mages on the shoreline northwest from Watatsumi Island Statue of Seven
Abyss Mage Locations in Sumeru
Interestingly, in Sumeru, there aren't many Abyss Mages to be found, except for the 7 Abyss Mages in Old Varanara related to a hidden achievement (Song of Night and Dawn) and a luxurious chest. However, considering that these mages do not respawn, they cannot be used for the purpose of farming materials once completed. Nevertheless, there are a few more spots at Sumeru Desert that players can visit for farming purposes:
- Three Abyss Mages on a camp construction at the northwest of Bayt Al-Sukr teleport point (above ground)
- Near the entrance of the City of the Deceased Domain (underground)
- Cryo Abyss in water northwest of Debris od Panjvahe teleport point (underground)
- South of Realm of Farakhkert Teleport point on the same level at the Hilichurl Camp (above ground)
- Very close to Gavireh Lajavard teleport point (west) accompanied by dancing Hilichurls
- North of the previous point at a large Hilichurl camp
Abyss Mage Locations in The Chasm: Underground Mines
The Chasm: Underground Mines also has a few Abyss Mages, most of which are located near the Nameless Ruins and Stony Halls.
Abyss Mage Locations in Nameless Ruins and Stony Halls
- Glide toward south from the Nameless Ruins teleport point to find the Electro Abyss Mage on the ground level.
- From the same teleportal, turn left and glide south east from the opening, Abyss mages are near the ground level by the corrupted zone.
- Glide south west from the Stony Halls (north) teleport point towards the mine construction to find the Electro Abyss Mage roaming around.
- From the same teleport point (not the central one) continue towards south west past the giant hole to find the Pyro Abyss Mage.
Abyss Mage Locations in Other Chasm: Underground Mines Locations
Players can find other Abyss Mages at:
- Glide from the most southwestern teleport point of The Glowing Narrows towards the west (over the broken bridge towards the purple area) to find two Abyss Mages
- Jump down from the Underground Waterway teleport point to find the Cryo Abyss Mage at the end of a small waterfall.
- From the point above, follow the waterway towards south to find a Hydro Abyss Mage by the fishing spot.
- Glide down from the southern teleport point from The Chasm: Main Mining Area to find the nearby Pyro Abyss Mage
- Most northern point of the chasm (green area) for the last two Abyss Mages
Abyss Mage Locations in Enkanomiya
As with all other areas in Teyvat, Enkanomiya also has plenty of spots where players can find Abyss Mages. In this case, all Abyss Mages are located in the main areas of Enkanomiya, meaning that players do not need to search for them on the hidden islands or in The Serpent's Bowels.
Abyss Mage Locations in The Narrows
All the Abyss Mages are closest to the most eastern teleport point at The Narrows, and players can follow an almost straight line above the hills to find them all
- Pyro Abyss Mage above the hill near the pool with the portal
- Hydro Abyss Mage south of the previous location
- Electro Abyss Mage roaming on the stairs below the hills
- Pyro Abyss Mage at the small hill from the south west to the Electro Abyss Mage
Abyss Mage Locations in The Dainichi Mikoshi
Almost all Abyss Mages in this zone are within a short sprinting distance from the closest teleport points on the map. The only exception to this is the location at the easternmost point, which has two Abyss Mages on a mid-level rock formation. Players can reach this location by gliding from the eastern teleport point towards the north.
Abyss Mage Locations in Evernight Temple
Abyss Mages in this area are also quite straightforward to reach. One of the three spots is directly visible from the southern teleport point, while the other two can be accessed by going in the respective directions from the middle teleport point near the pond. It's important to note that while the teleport location at the west may seem closer for the northern Abyss Mage location, since the Abyss Mage is located above this spot, it is actually trickier to reach from there.
Abyss Mage Locations in The Serpent's Heart
Similar to the other zones in Enkanomiya, players can simply move towards the marked locations of the Abyss Mages from the nearest teleport points, as some of them are even within visible distance.
