Highlights

  • Genshin Impact version 4.0 will introduce the highly anticipated Fontaine region, but fans are unhappy about the game's large file size of 32GB.
  • The increasing file size with every update mainly affects mobile players who have limited storage, while PC and PlayStation users have more space.
  • To save space, players may have to delete and download the game whenever a new version is released, potentially causing inconvenience for some.

Genshin Impact fans are unhappy with the recently revealed file size for the upcoming version 4.0. HoYoverse's most popular title has a frequent update schedule that adds new content to the game approximately every 6 to 7 weeks. This content includes new explorable terrain, characters, weapons, or quests.

Genshin Impact's official release was back in September 2020, so the game is slowly heading to its 3rd anniversary. During these three years, HoYovese has been constantly adding new things to the game and players will soon be able to enter a new major region. The recent promotional videos and live stream events have confirmed that version 4.0 will finally add the long-awaited Fontaine region.

While the addition of a new major region is probably the most exciting event for most Genshin Impact fans, a lot of players face a serious issue with the game's file size. A Reddit user named Kuraku4 has started an interesting discussion on the game's main subreddit by complaining about the fact that the upcoming Genshin Impact 4.0 update will take up 32GB of their storage. The game getting increasingly larger with every new update affects mobile players the most since PC and PlayStation users usually have larger storage at their disposal. A couple of comments have pointed out that some devices redownload the whole game whenever a new update arrives.

This means that the best way to save up some space would be to delete and download the game when a new version of the game becomes available. There is no official information about the size of the Fontaine region but considering that the previously added nation, Sumeru, was bigger than Liyue and Mondstadt combined, players can probably expect something similar with the Hydro region as well.

The promotional videos have confirmed that the design of the main city of Fontaine has a futuristic design, and it will be filled with various rivers which makes sense since Hydro is the region's representative element. When it comes to new playable units, tons of new Genshin Impact characters have been revealed, however, HoYoverse has only confirmed Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet for update 4.0.

Even though these three haven't even officially joined the playable roster, Genshin Impact has already confirmed two new characters that will arrive in update 4.1. These characters are known as Wriothesley and Neuvillette, and they are both expected to have a higher five-star rarity.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
