With the console currently such a hot commodity worldwide, the PlayStation 5 is proving to be a difficult product for avid gamers to get their hands on, with most retailers quickly running out of stock. With such a high demand for the console, it seems players will do just about anything to secure themselves Sony's newest hardware, even if that means meeting the excessively high prices set by scalpers preying on eager PlayStation 5 buyers.

However, one lucky player could get themselves a new PlayStation 5 with no price tag attached, as Sony has recently announced a new partnership with General Mills to give away a free console and a number of other enticing prizes. The major breakfast cereal company will be including codes inside the boxes of its various products, with buyers having to input them into BigGPS5Sweeps.com to secure themselves a chance of winning.

As for the rules, entrants must be from the US and over 18 years old. They can also only enter a maximum of 15 codes into the competition, preventing avid PlayStation 5 fans from stockpiling cereal boxes to better their chances. When entering, there will be two different prize pools. The first will be a sweepstake and the main part of the contest, with the winning entrant securing themselves the grand prize of the PlayStation 5. The other contest is called the "Instant Win Game," which will be handing out over 4,500 prizes instantly for players with a winning code.

Included among these additional rewards are an Iron Man VR bundle including a PSVR headset, a PlayStation 4 console, a digital copy of Sackboy: A Big Adventure for PlayStation 5, and several $20 gift vouchers redeemable on the PlayStation Store. Those interested in the contest can purchase a number of popular cereal brands to take part, including Lucky Charms, Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Reese's Puffs, and Cookie Crisp. They can even get a code for free, by requesting one either online or through the mail.

Although contests like this are far from the most reliable way to secure a piece of new tech, those buying themselves a box of cereal during their next grocery shop should keep it in mind. As for the current stock issues with the PlayStation 5, it seems as though the console may remain a hot commodity for a while. Speaking on the console in a recent interview with Russian news agency TAAS, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan remarked that "everything is sold," claiming that the publisher was currently struggling to meet the public's high demand for its newest product.
