Gears POP was an odd phenomenon when it was announced back in 2018, and it has remained such since. Despite being an amalgamation of two very popular things, it was just announced that the servers would be shutting down for good next year. Players have until April 26th, 2021 to get their fill of the charming take on a typically brutal franchise, but it's not all bad news.

As a sort of compensation to dedicated players or some type of swan song, Gears POP! is refunding player purchases that were made in the last 90 days and disabling in app purchases from here on out. What's more, players will also be able to experience some of the greatest things about the game until the server shuts down.

Developer Mediatonic is bringing back popular events and increasing the drop rate of legendary pins. This may be the last couple months of the game, but Gears POP! should be a lot of fun having more access to these things that were previously soft locked behind pay walls.

In regards to why the servers will be shutting down, Mediatonic explains that it's about more than just keeping the servers on. The team also has to dedicate time and resources into updating the game, fixing bugs, and keeping the player base satisfied with events and the like. This isn't something the team can do anymore, though it didn't give a reason why. Some speculate it's to spend more time on its newest hit game, Fall Guys, but there's no confirmation that this is the case.

Gears POP! will shut down its servers on April 26th, 2021.
