The Coalition has announced the release date of the upcoming Gears of War: The Card Game. Living Card Game fans have been anxiously awaiting the Gears of War adaptation from Steamforged Games. With today's announcement, fans are now able to pre-order Gears of War: The Card Game. At the very least, it might help make the wait for Gears 6 a little less painful.Steamforged Games is well known in the board and card game industry for its licensed adaptations. Other recent game releases from Steamforged Games include Dark Souls: The Card Game, Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game, and the still-in-development Elden Ring: The Board Game. Game developers often work with reliable board and card game creators like Steamforged Games to create licensed products to further capitalize on brands. A four-month turnaround for a game like Gears of War: The Card Game is rare, though forgoing a crowdfunding campaign and its various tiers of rewards can save a lot of time. Those interested in purchasing and playing Gears of War: The Card Game can pre-order it now through the official Steamforged Games website for a base price of $34.95.

As for the game itself, Gears of War: The Card Game is an LCG, which in a general sense means that purchasing the game provides all the cards necessary to fully play it. There's no collecting involved. Gears of War: The Card Game is for two players, with one taking control of COG forces and the other the Locust horde. Players can optimize their deck with character cards from the Gears franchise as they battle across a campaign of 15 different scenarios.

This isn't the first licensed Gears of War spin-off hitting the tables of hobbyists, of course. There's also Gears of War: The Board Game. Released in 2011, Gears of War: The Board Game was developed by publisher Fantasy Flight Games and Star Wars: Rebellion designer Corey Konieczka. Those familiar with Konieczka's work likely won't be surprised to hear Gears of War: The Board Game is very well-received. Perhaps Gears of War: The Card Game will continue the trend.

For the time being, there's unfortunately very little information available regarding how Gears of War: The Card Game plays. As such, it's perhaps a reasonable decision to wait until more information, including some example games played out, gets shared online. Otherwise, The Coalition continues to work on Gears 6 for release in the not-too-distant future.
