The Gears of War trilogy remaster that was previously rumored is still happening, according to the insider that shared the initial leak. Gears of War remains one of Xbox's biggest franchises, and is perhaps its most consistently well-received. Gears 6 is all but an inevitability at this point. However, the franchise is starting to age a bit, making the original Gears of War titles a bit difficult to go back to. Perhaps a Gears of War trilogy remaster would be appropriate to release before Gears 6.It may come as a shock to some Xbox fans, but Gears of War is now over 16 years old. Even Gears of War 3 is inching closer to 12. Both were released for the Xbox 360 generation, which while impressive next to the original Xbox still has clearly aged next to the visual prowess of the Xbox Series generation. As such, it wasn't a huge surprise when Xbox Era host Shpeshal_Nick shared that he'd heard a Master Chief Collection-like bundle for Gears of War was in the works in May 2022.RELATED: Gears of War is Getting Its Own Card GameDespite Shpeshal_Nick's report last year, no official word of a Gears of War remaster collection was shared for the rest of the year. And given the exclusive game drought Xbox faced in 2022, it would have made sense for the collection to be announced if it did exist. However, Shpeshal_Nick is now reaffirming that the Gears of War remasters remain in development. He isn't able to share any more information, but he's confident in what he's heard.

Shepshal_Nick shared the news on his Twitter account, responding to a fan question regarding the status of the Gears of War remasters. He says that he's been telling his podcast cohosts that he "won't back down" regarding the news and that he's sure "it's happening." That's the full extent of his re-confirmation of the Gears of War project.

In an interesting follow-up tweet, however, Shepshal_Nick does say that he wants to share more information, but can't. He says he's "not allowed" to share more information, likely at his source's request. What he does say is that what he's seen of the project "should be really awesome," and especially great for Gears of War fans.

The previous implication from Shepshal_Nick is that the Gears of War remasters are part of a Master Chief Collection-type project. That perhaps means there will be a broader progression system, battle pass, rewards, achievements, and more associated with all three games, but that's just speculation at this time. Hopefully, Xbox will confirm the development of the Gears of War remasters before long. They'd be a great 2023 addition for Xbox fans, as would Gears 6.
