An eagle-eyed gamer discovers a recent change made to the official uploads of the Gears of War soundtracks on YouTube that may indicate that a Halo: Master Chief Collection-esque compilation of the franchise's original trilogy is in development. Though this suggestion isn't based on anything definitive and is largely speculation, it's possible that there could be something more going on behind the scenes regarding the Gears of War series, especially with the Xbox Games Showcase being so close to premiering.

For years, rumors have floated around about The Coalition developing a Marcus Fenix Collection of sorts in tandem with the next mainline installment in the Gears franchise. These claims began to pile up in early 2022, when XboxEra's Shpeshal_Nick hinted on multiple occasions that an MCC-style remaster of a pillar Xbox franchise was actively being worked on at Microsoft. Since then, many have speculated and even alleged that a Gears of War collection would be announced at the 2022 and 2023 Xbox summer showcases. Of course, none of these claims have come to fruition so far. Even still, insider reports and clues have continued to pop up lately regarding the supposed existence of this compilation of remasters, and although not all of them seem legit, one recent bit of evidence is especially peculiar.

Gears of War 6 June Announcement Teased By Veteran Actor

A potential upcoming June announcement for The Coalition's Gears of War 6 is teased by one of the franchise's veteran voice actors.

As pointed out by The_Iceman2288 in a post they made on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, the thumbnails for the Gears of War 2 and 3 soundtracks "on Steve Jablonsky's YouTube channel have been updated to include The Coalition logo" in the bottom right corner. Jablonsky, for those unaware, is the composer who wrote the musical scores for the GoW franchise's second and third installments, so for him to make such a seemingly unnecessary tweak to the album covers of those games is a bit strange. As such, some are taking this as a sign that the Marcus Fenix Collection rumors are legitimate and that the compilation will be revealed in the near future. However, it's possible that this minor change means absolutely nothing.

The biggest reason why hints like these regarding this rumored Gears collection keep circulating is that a compilation of the series' original trilogy has been highly requested for long time. After all, the original Gears of War is the only Xbox 360 game in the franchise to get a remaster and PC port so far. GoW 2, 3, and Judgment, meanwhile, are still only playable on modern Xbox consoles via backwards compatibility, with no native ports available for Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S, let alone PC. Because of that, a remastered collection would be welcomed by many in the Gears community.

Fans Should Still Keep Their Expectations in Check Regarding the Gears Collection's Existence

Judging by reports from credible insiders, it seems like a Gears of War 6 announcement could happen at the Xbox Games Showcase. However, none of the same leakers have alleged that a Gears collection will be revealed alongside it. As such, it's probably best that fans keep their expectations in check because there's a good chance that this potential Gears of War compilation won't be unveiled anytime soon.

Xbox Game Studios' Gears of War franchise began on the Xbox 360 and instantly became a flagship franchise for the green brand. The original Gears of War trilogy is considered one of the finest in the history of the third-person shooter genre, with the trilogy's intense action and surprisingly touching story moments creating memorable experiences.

The series has had another two solid main series entries since and even a turn-based tactics game.
