According to Shpeshal Nick on the Xbox Era podcast, known for their Xbox scoops, Gears 6 could be "almost" be a full open world game. Nick pointed out how Gears 5 was a "step towards that," and said that "Gears 6 will take that to another level." It's true that Gears 5 featured some wide-open level design, in stark contrast to previous games in the series, so it would make sense for the sequel to expand on that concept. Nick also said that the game is a "little further along than some may think," so hopefully franchise fans are treated to a proper Gears 6 reveal sooner rather than later.
If Gears 6 is launching within the next couple of years as previous leaks have suggested, it would stand to reason that the game's reveal could be happening at some point in the near future. Maybe the game could make an appearance at The Game Awards, or maybe it will be saved as a big E3 surprise for Xbox next year.
