Game developer The Coalition offers up eight minutes of brand new campaign footage for Gears of War 4, which shows off new enemies, weapons, and much more.

Ever since Microsoft put out Gears of War 4's first trailer and gameplay details at E3 2015, fans of the third-person shooter franchise have been sitting on pins and needles in anticipation for the forthcoming sequel in the series to launch this fall. Thankfully, developers have been easing the pain of waiting for the game by releasing loads of campaign and multiplayer footage since its initial announcement, with the segments showing off battles between the Locust and the Swarm, plenty of freshly designed environments, as well as the title's cast of new and familiar characters.

Today, Microsoft and The Coalition are continuing its decision to eke out more information about Gears of War 4 through gameplay, by providing IGN with a look at nearly eight minutes of never-before-seen campaign footage that features new enemies, weapons, and the return of Marcus Fenix taking on the role of squad leader, as his group gets attacked, forcing them to fight through a garden. While the gameplay is definitely action-packed, those fans who wish to remain spoiler-free until the game drops on October 11 would do well to refrain from watching the campaign footage or reading from here on out.

As seen in the Gears of War 4 video below, the game's new enemies probably aren't what one would expect, considering the fact that the majority of baddies in the past have been variants of the Locust and the Swarm. Gears 4 is taking somewhat of a detour from having strictly organic adversaries, as the opposing forces in the campaign footage are called "Deebees" and appear to be drones and non-humans sporting COG armor, as their movements and modulated voices make them out as some sort of robots or cyborgs.

On top of the conflict between the bots and the Fenix squad, fans are also given a glimpse at several new weapons in Gears of War 4. The Lancer, of course, is still a mainstay, but since variety is the spice of life, The Coalition has also added a sub-machine gun, an automatic shogun, some sort of railgun type of rifle, and a few other powerful firearms.

The next round of Gears of War 4 gameplay footage in the chamber will be centered around the Horde mode. Although the studio hasn't divulged exactly when the reveal will occur, some fans and outlets are speculating that we could be privy to find out how the fourth installment handles the popular feature at PAX West in September.

There's no doubt that plenty members of the franchise's fan base are wondering whether or not The Coalition will be able to recapture the same magic found in the first three games in the series with Gears of War 4, especially with the introduction of new enemies like the Deebees and unfamiliar weaponry like SMGs and automatic shotguns. Nevertheless, it seems as if developers are on track to give the series a shot in the arm with the fourth entry, while also retaining tried-and-true gameplay, themes, and mechanics, as evidenced in our hands-on preview with the game.

Gears of War 4 is set to release on October 11, 2016 for PC and Xbox One.
