One of the big surprises last year at E3 was Gears 5, the next entry in the new trilogy from Microsoft's The Coalition studio. While the the CG trailer showed the return of Marcus and JD Fenix as well as Del Walker, it also confirmed that Kait Diaz would be taking the lead role this time around. Following an earlier than expected look at the release date and launch plans thanks to some billboards in LA, Microsoft confirms all the details in full at its E3 2019 press conference.

The latest trailer for Gears 5 gave fans a creative look at Kait Diaz and the many emotions running through her head following the revelation discovered at the end of Gears of War 4. While showing the allegiances and friendships with JD and Del, the trailer also showcases a few interesting details and a potential look at what a corrupted version of Kait may look like.

In addition to the cinematic new trailer, Coalition Studio Head Rod Fergusson provided fans with a few additional details alongside the September 10, 2019 release date. With a technical test scheduled for July 17, players who pre-order or play Gears 5 in the first week get access to a special DLC pack which is a cross over event with the Terminator franchise called Dark Fate.

However, the biggest news was the debut of a new game mode called Escape. Unlike the previous incantations of Horde Mode, Escape challenges of squad of three players to infiltrate a hive, plant a bomb, and then make it out alive. Not only that, players can create their own hives that can be players by friends.

Gears 5 launches on PC and Xbox One on September 10, 2019.
