Xbox revealed the trailer for Gears 5 Horde mode. The mode will bring 5-player co-op to horde and will let player charge through waves of enemies in the upcoming shooter.

The Horde mode in Gears 5 will add ultimate abilities, like a cloaking device. The mode will have a fully customizable, card-based upgrade system and a new UI that will show enemy damage as players eat away at their health.

On the Xbox stage, The Coalition gave a little more details on the new Ultimate feature. Kait will be able to go invisible and run across the battlefield. JD will be able to summon in an artillery strike to rain fire down on the field. Del will be able to release trackers that help find hidden enemies.

The team also talked about how the robot JACK will work in Horde. When the team announced JACK as a playable character in co-op, folks thought the robot wouldn’t offer much to players. The team says they have worked hard to make JACK feel like a real, fully-fleshed out character. Like the human characters, JACK will feature an Ultimate ability that will allow it to possess enemies and use them as a player.

The team also announced a few new characters for the mode. Gears 5 has announced partnership with with the Halo team to add two Halo: Reach characters to the game. Play as Emile and Kat, each with their own ultimates. Emile will have the ability to bring down a protective drop shield and Kat can create a decoy hologram. The characters will feature the same voice actors as Halo: Reach.

The Horde mode will also feature a card-based upgrade system. Players will start with all of their already-equipped cards at the beginning of the game. Players will then upgrade those cards and increase their abilities throughout the course of the match. This will give players the option to get new abilities as they take out the horde.

Gears 5 Horde mode looks intense. The upgrades that the team have in store will make it even more fun and addicting than it has been in previous games. The Coalition didn’t tease everything it has planned for the mode. Surely more characters with more ultimate abilities will show up in the final version. Plus, Gears 5 horde mode will have its own achievements to track down.  Players can look forward to putting their ultimates up against the Horde next month.
