At E3 2019, The Coalition appeared on stage during Microsoft's press conference to showcase Gears 5. Not only did The Coalition confirm Gears 5's release date, but it also revealed a brand new co-op game mode that's coming to the game called Escape.

Gears 5's Escape Mode will be a three player co-op experience where players have to plant bombs in Hives and escape with their lives. Based on the trailer, it seems as though players will have unique abilities to help them survive against the hordes, including an electrically-charged knife. Additionally, the usual Gears of War arsenal will be available as well, in addition to some new weapons as well.

And while this feature wasn't shown off, it was also confirmed that Gears 5 players will be able to build their own Hives to challenge friends. Details are scarce, but it sounds like the Escape Mode will have a level editor of some kind, with players presumably able to upload their creations online.

Even though Gears 5 isn't coming out until September 10, fans will have the chance to try out the Escape Mode ahead of launch. The Coalition confirmed that Gears 5's Escape Mode will be playable in some Microsoft Stores, so those interested should check with their local store to see if and when they will have the demo available.

As previously mentioned, the Escape Mode wasn't the only thing shown for Gears 5 at E3 2019. Microsoft also teased the story mode, and revealed one of its pre-order bonuses. The Terminator is coming to Gears 5 as a playable character for anyone who pre-orders the game.

More on Gears 5 and its Escape Mode should come to light in the coming days as those in attendance at E3 2019 go hands on with it. Of course, Gears 5 fans can also look forward to returning game modes like Campaign, versus multiplayer, and Horde Mode, so even if they're not impressed by Escape, there should be plenty to do come September.

Gears 5 launches on September 10 for PC and Xbox One.
