Despite its high review scores and interesting twists on the Pokemon formula, Cassette Beasts seems to have flown somewhat under the radar compared to other new game releases this year, which is a shame. Pokemon fans should definitely give it a shot when they can, as Cassette Beasts not only delivers a high quality Pokemon-like experience with enough of its own ideas to stand out, but it also features full local co-op implementation.

Playing Cassette Beasts in co-op is a simple process. Players simply need to progress far enough in the story to unlock their first partner, Kayleigh, at which point local co-op will become an option. Co-op partners in Cassette Beasts are free to run around the game world with the main character, and they also have their own monster that they solely get to control in the game's many 2v2 battles.

Not only does Cassette Beasts provide a genuinely fun co-op mode, but the game also has an open world to explore where players are free to take on the main quest's various challenges in any order they wish. Some could argue that Cassette Beasts does open world Pokemon better than Pokemon itself did with Scarlet and Violet. However, fans really need to play Cassette Beasts for themselves and form their own opinion on the game and its open world. Luckily, Cassette Beasts' availability through Xbox Game Pass means that anyone interested can do so on PC or Xbox consoles without paying anything more than their Game Pass subscription fee.
