Beside any hero set out on their journey, follows a long line of villains waiting to spoil their attempt of saving the day. Gamers witness epic showdowns between good and evil and hope for victory after they have spent hours customizing the abilities and weapons of their character to their liking. Players grind for unlockable weapons, complete challenges for unique abilities, and gather all the necessary items they need to increase their chances of stopping the villains. In this sense, a development team's effort placed into crafting the most unique and interesting weapons is a major part of what makes any physical conflict interesting. These are the 10 games or franchises with the most impressive weapons.

10 Doom Eternal

First-person shooters are relatively the same in regards to weapon variety. There are the shotguns, the assault rifles, the pistols, etc. However, Doom Eternal goes far beyond the traditional FPS loadout and reaches for a more chaotic, brutal line-up of weaponry.

Yes, these basic weapons make their appearance, however, they are easily overlooked by the likes of the brilliant designs and feel of the Crucible sword, the Unmakyr, and of course, the BFG-9000. Amusingly violent and dramatic weapons are fairly common throughout the Doom franchise, but this year's Doom Eternal makes demon-slaying a whole lot of fun, and even more satisfying.

9 Final Fantasy

It wouldn't be fair to include only one game from the Final Fantasy franchise on this list. Nearly every game in the series offers at least a few impressive weapons. Squall's gunblade, Cloud's buster sword, and Sephiroth's sword Masamune are obvious choices. Although, it would be disappointing if shout-outs were not given to Tidus' sword Caladbolg, Quinoa's Gastro fork, and Rinoa's dog sidekick - Sant' Angelo di Roma. Square Enix truly does a wonderful job of supplying its characters with a fascinating and unique variety of impressive weapons.

8 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. as a franchise doesn't rely on a story, aside from Super Smash Bros. Brawl offering a rather detailed campaign mode. The main draw for these games lies within the PvP, be it with friends or online against strangers. When using items in a fighting game of this caliber, players often find themselves suddenly gaining the upper-hand in a matter of moments.

Nintendo does a great job supplying gamers with a vast assortment of throwables, melee weapons, and power-ups to use in a match. Even considering the smash ball on its own is amazing, simply because of how much skill it can take to effectively strike your opponents with certain characters using their smash attacks.

7 Kingdom Hearts

The keyblade is an impressive weapon concept. That is one thing that most gamers will agree on. However, one thing that is frequently overlooked in the series is just how uniquely designed the villains' weapons are. In Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II, we are introduced to Organization XIII, who all carry very special weapons suited to their personalities.

Weapons like Roxas' dual-wielded keyblades, Saix's claymore, Marluxia's scythe, and of course, Xemnas's Ethereal Blades make up just a few of the phenomenal weapons Kingdom Hearts has to offer.

6 Borderlands 3

No one should be surprised about this series making an appearance here. Borderlands is widely known for its hilarious and outstanding selection of guns. There are guns that shoot hamburgers, grenades that are flying unicorns that explode into rainbows, and guns that turn into little walking guns that shoot things until they explode.

There are even guns that act as portable mortar launchers. If that kind of humor mixed in with the overwhelming chaos that is Borderlands 3 gunplay isn't considered impressive, then what is?

5 Ratchet & Clank

There are a lot of Ratchet & Clank games. With a lot of games in a series, it is only natural to broaden the arsenal of weapons at the players' disposal. Many would argue that the Ratchet & Clank franchise features the most entertaining combination of gunfight and platforming that PlayStation exclusives have to offer.

Featuring items like the Quack-O-Ray, the Bouncer, and the Sheepinator, it is beyond impressive that Insomniac Games were able to design such whacky and fun tools for Ratchet and his companion Clank to tear across the galaxy with.

4 Saints Row

Saints Row gets away with a ridiculous amount of silly things, and we absolutely love it. Allowing players to cruise around the city, beating people down with weapons like the Penetrator or Shark-O-Matic from Saints Row: The Third, laying back and slaying demons with the Armchair-A-Geddon from Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, or making innocent civilians break it down with the famous Dubstep Gun from Saints Row IV. The point is, the series has no shortage of unique, goofy weapons that are just as shocking as they are satisfying to use.

3 Worms

Many gamers have never played the Worms games, which despite being incredibly unfortunate, is a missed opportunity at seeing some of the most devastating weapons ever placed in a turn-based game be put to use.

From the Banana Bomb to the Holy Hand Grenade, to that unfairly ludicrous donkey, Worms shows off not only one of the largest collections of impressive weapons but also forces the player to sit waiting in agony over which haunting move their opponent will play next. Just hope it isn't that awful donkey, seriously.

2 Fallout 4

At first glance, Fallout 4 once again follows the basic guidelines of first-person shooter arsenals. There are the pistols, the melee weapons, and the rifles to start off, and yes, the power armor is a nice touch of impressive weaponry on its own. However, as players delve deeper into the game, they discover brilliantly punishing weapons like the Nuka-Nuke Cannon and the Problem Solver.

Upon discovering these behemoths of guns, players are excited, realizing a whole different world of opportunity has just opened up for them to experiment with on their adventures out in the wasteland.

1 Dead Rising

When gamers load up a game in the Dead Rising franchise, they expect a lot of zombies. When there are a lot of zombies, they will need a lot of weapons. Good thing for them, nearly everything in the games are a weapon. Chainsaw? Yes. Shopping cart? Why not. Gumball machine? Of course. Showerhead? Go for it.

Walking around the worlds of this series and searching for crazy things to cause mayhem with is all part of its bountiful charm. So, obviously, when making a list about games with the most impressive weapons, one could not possibly overlook the elegance Dead Rising shows in crafting a great, dynamic environment.
