As streamers and YouTube personalities have taken to unboxing packs of cards on video and sharing their collecting adventures, platforms like Twitch have seen major rises in popularity in Pokemon trading card category in the past few years. While many are still collecting, however, one creative fan has found another use for their cards.
Reddit user JellyfishBright4961 has shared their journey from start to finish of creating a unique Pokemon-inspired computer desk in a series of photos. The fan completed the project with their father by placing cards they've had since childhood on the top of the table and coating the surface in epoxy. They also made sure to remove any cards of value before starting the project. This is certainly a smart idea as some of the most expensive Pokemon cards ever sold have commanded jaw-dropping amounts of money over the years.
The outside border is covered in Energy cards while the center is enveloped in a random assortment of cards seemingly from the first couple of Generations. While the community generally applauds the craftsmanship on display, the poster knew it would inevitably rub some collectors the wrong way. Still, as one commenter admits, this is a unique way to keep nostalgic memorabilia relevant and on display rather than collecting dust in a closet somewhere.
