One gamer recently came across a piece of gaming nostalgia when they found a receipt for a GameCube console. While the newest gaming systems, such as the Xbox Series X/S and PS5, receive most of the attention these days with popular games like Hogwarts Legacy released on them, many gamers still appreciate the consoles from previous generations, such as the GameCube.

First released in 2001, the GameCube was aptly named as it had a distinct cube shape. In addition to this unique design, it had improved performance over the N64, with the graphics of many games looking much better on the system. While the GameCube was not one of Nintendo’s best-selling consoles, it was home to a number of classic games. Several examples of popular titles on the system included Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, to name a few. In addition, several new series began on the system, such as Pikmin and Luigi’s Mansion.

Recently, one fan known as Vitamin-A- shared a picture of a receipt they discovered from when they purchased their GameCube console in 2001. The image revealed their nostalgic find, with the piece of paper showing the expected wear and tear for something over 21 years old. Based on the picture, Vitamin-A- purchased their GameCube at a Walmart and paid $199 for the system, with the grand total being $211.44 with tax.

In addition to showing a picture of the memorable receipt, Vitamin-A- provided several details about the story behind their purchase. According to the Reddit user, they waited outside a Walmart for 20 hours with their twin and friend before the system's release. While waiting 20 hours was evidence enough of their love for gaming, they revealed that the weather was not pleasant that day, as it was very cold. However, they said that braving the elements was worth it.

This Nintendo-related blast to the past has caught the attention of many nostalgic gamers on the Gaming subreddit. The post has received a number of upvotes, with many talking about their fond memories of the GameCube. Among the comments, some noticed the $199 price tag of the system, noting that it was $100 cheaper than its competitors, the Xbox and PS2. Furthermore, others talked about their own memories of waiting for the midnight releases of video game consoles.

While video game companies continue to innovate and provide new gaming experiences, it is nice to see that some gamers still have nostalgia for the games of previous console generations. In fact, a number of people have been sharing their own retro gaming discoveries on Reddit. For instance, another gamer recently shared a collection of retro games they discovered in their mom’s garage. It will be interesting to see what other nostalgic memories gamers share with the gaming community in the weeks ahead.
