Game of Thrones left fans in a weird place following its series finale, but with the release of the House of the Dragon prequel show on HBO, the fandom is coming back around. It may seem like an odd pairing to mix the world of Pokemon with Game of Thrones, but in a world dictated by politics and combat, having a powerful creature by one's side isn't too outlandish of a notion.

Some characters had dragons at their side, while others raised giant wolves, but giving all of them their own Pokemon companion makes it a more even fight. Beware those who have yet to finish Game of Thrones, as there will be plenty of spoilers throughout this article.

9 Theon Greyjoy (Tentacruel)

Game Of Thrones Pokemon Theon Greyjoy Tentacruel

Pairing a member of House Greyjoy with a squid makes sense. The creature on the family's sigil is the same one they would likely gravitate to if given the opportunity. Tentacruel also shares some things with Theon that make it a solid pairing. They are complicated Water-type Pokemon that have both aided and attacked humans and it's never clear what their actual intentions are.

In Game of Thrones, Theon serves as both an ally and a foe, and his character arc is heartbreaking, disturbing, and emotionally complex. That being said, he may not have the guts to capture a Tentacruel and would much more likely end up with a Psyduck or Magikarp as his Water-type Pokemon companion.

8 Robb Stark (Mightyena)

Game Of Thrones Pokemon Robb Stark Mightyena

As with many of the men in House Stark, Robb had so much promise as a fighter and eventual king, but all of that came crashing down at the unforgettable betrayal known simply as the Red Wedding. Wolves are as true to House Stark as the winter is, and in the world of Pokemon, it seems that Mightyena is the closest thing to a direwolf that Robb Stark could capture and train.

Known as the Bite Pokemon, these Dark-type canines are said to always obey the commands of their trainer and rely on expert coordination with a pack in order to secure victory. A strategy Robb lived by and one that helped win him a string of battles when he was still a young man.

7 Robert Baratheon (Wyrdeer)

Game Of Thrones Pokemon Robert Baratheon Wyrdeer

It's a shame that Game of Thrones fans were introduced to Robert Baratheon during his later years. In his prime, he was arguably the most ferocious and powerful warrior in all of Westeros. His strength was unmatched, and he bested any man that opposed him on the battlefield.

House Baratheon has a stag as its sigil and is known for the words "Ours is the Fury." Recently, the eighth generation of games provided Stantler with a secondary evolutionary form called Wyrdeer that most accurately represents the type of stag a man of Robert's prowess would want by his side.

6 Sansa Stark (Serperior)

Game Of Thrones Pokemon Sansa Stark Serperor

Pairing a member of House Stark with a non-canine Pokemon may feel blasphemous on the surface, but Sansa Stark has never fully aligned with what was expected out of a House Stark woman. In her youth, she relished the idea of becoming queen, but her life experiences made her realize that loyalty and protecting one's own family is the most important.

Serperior, the Regal Pokemon, is a Grass-type Pokemon that embellishes the royal persona Sansa maintains at her core, but it also has a confidence about itself that doesn't feel inflated or unearned. It's also known for having an intimidating glare, a trick Sansa has used to her advantage as well in key confrontations.

5 Tyrion Lannister (Alakazam)

Game Of Thrones Pokemon Tyrian Lannister Alakazam

In Game of Thrones, few characters captured the attention of viewers as often as Tyrion Lannister. As a dwarf, he knew he wouldn't ever be able to command a room with his presence, but due to his intelligence and self-confidence, he was able to find a seat at the table and provide a voice people listened to. Tyrion always understood that his strength was his mind, and therefore it makes sense that he'd lean into training a Pokemon that sits in the same place.

The Psychic-type known as Alakazam is arguably the most intelligent Pokemon in existence and is said to have a brain capable of outperforming supercomputers. Pairing one of the smartest men in Westeros with a living supercomputer seems a bit unfair, but when has the world of Game of Thrones ever been fair?

4 Arya Stark (Zoroark)

Game Of Thrones Pokemon Arya Stark Zoroark

Arya Stark has one of the most interesting character journeys in all of Game of Thrones as she starts as a brave young girl who is molded into a dangerous assassin. The art of illusion plays a big part in how she can overcome dangers that are much more physically imposing than she is.

A Pokemon like Zoroark which is known for casting illusions seems like her perfect partner. It can create illusory scenery that can mask the location of those it wants to protect. This means that Arya and whatever company she keeps would be able to get a full night's rest in preparation for combat and not have to worry about a surprise attack.

3 Tywin Lannister (Arcanine)

Game Of Thrones Pokemon Tywin Lannister Arcanine

The Lannisters are a prideful House in Westeros and therefore surely make a calculated decision regarding which Pokemon they captured and raised. House Lannister is represented by a lion on their banner and the world of Pokemon has two distinct lion-adjacent creatures.

The first is Pyroar, a sixth-generation Pokemon with an awkward design, and the other is the Kanto region's Arcanine. In addition to being one of the original 151 Pokemon, a fact that would seem relevantly important to someone like Tywin Lannister, it also has a commanding presence.

2 Daenerys Targaryen (Salamence)

Game Of Thrones Pokemon Daenerys Targaryen Salamence

Daenerys Targaryen clearly would have a Dragon-type Pokemon by her side, but which creature she would train and befriend is the real question. The quick answer most people would land on is Charizard as it happens to be the most famous dragon-inspired Pokemon, though it isn't actually a Dragon-type.

With that in mind, the answer glides in clear as day at being the third generation creature known as Salamence. The fact that its species is the Dragon Pokemon is good enough of an argument on its own but add in its elite-level base stats and the fact that it has the Intimidate ability and there isn't a better match for the Dragon Queen.

1 Jon Snow (Lucario)

Game Of Thrones Pokemon Jon Snow Lucario

Despite his capabilities as a fighter, Jon Snow's true strength was in the empathy he showed to others. As his story unfolded he had to understand that there was a strong line he had to draw between showing others kindness and not letting them take advantage of said kindness. The idea of Jon Snow roaming around with a Lucario by his side makes sense due to what the Pokedex says about this stoic Pokemon.

Lucario can understand human speech, but at the same time can read and feel the aura of all living things around itself. This could provide Jon Snow with pivotal information regarding the feelings of both his allies and his foes. Such information could dictate his political positions and offer up an advantage when it comes to negotiations.
