Wonder Woman 3 star Gal Gadot has recently shared an update for fans on the highly-anticipated sequel. Gadot's iconic hero first made her debut in the DCEU, specifically in Zack Synder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. From there, she went on to star in the lead role in 2017’s Wonder Woman, with female director Patty Jenkins at the helm.

Wonder Woman was instantly a massive hit at the box office, bringing in over $820 million worldwide. Not only did the film shatter records at the box office, but Wonder Woman was also equally met with immense praise from critics and audiences alike. Later that same year, Gadot returned to her character in Synder's 2017 Justice League film. The last time that Gadot was seen as Wonder Woman was her appearance in the 2020 movie, Wonder Woman 1984. The sequel follows the beloved heroine in the mid-1980s as she is caught living a double life in Washington D.C. The film earned a mixed bag of reviews, although to be fair it was released in the midst of the pandemic when theaters were suffering greatly.

Although rumors have been circling around now for quite some time, Wonder Woman 3 was officially confirmed in 2020, just a few days after the release of Wonder Woman 1984. It’s quite surprising that the announcement of Wonder Woman 3 came so quickly after the mediocre response that Wonder Woman 1984 did end up receiving. Perhaps the cast and crew felt as though they now had something to prove, and a legacy to maintain and uphold as well. Now, in a recent interview with Forbes, Gadot shared an update with fans on the upcoming DCEU film, Wonder Woman 3. She gushed, “We’re talking, we’re actually in the mix of working on the script and getting the third one made - so all wheels are working and turning. I’m super, super excited for fans to come and watch Wonder Woman 3 once it’s made.”

Gadot's update comes long after director Jenkins previously shared that she did have a clear sense of direction in terms of where she wanted the third film to go, but doubled back by saying she ended up taking a break from the writing process in order to process the pandemic and the new world emerging from its shadows. Inevitably, like the many ways that the pandemic has altered society and everyone’s lives, it seems to have greatly impacted the plot of Wonder Woman 3 too. Lynda Carter, who played Wonder Woman in the original 1970s television series, is reportedly also set to make a comeback to the franchise as well. She will be portraying the character of Asteria, as her impending arrival was teased at the very end of Wonder Woman 1984.

Other than the confirmation that Wonder Woman 3 is in fact in the works, not much has been revealed plot-wise in terms of what fans can expect to see Wonder Woman get into. Actor Chris Pine did play a lead character in both Wonder Woman films, portraying the character of fighter pilot Steve Trevor. Yet, when recently asked if he would be reprising his role, he didn’t seem too certain. It seems as though the cast and crew of Wonder Woman 3 are still mapping out the world and storyline so far, but Gadot seems assured that fans will be in for quite the ride.

Wonder Woman 3 is in development.
