Overwatch 2 developers shared additional information about the upcoming heroes to join the roster of Blizzard’s FPS, hinting that fans may already know some of them as they previously appeared in the game’s lore. The backstory of Overwatch 2 is filled with secondary characters assisting the heroes across their journey, with some having bigger importance than others when it comes to shaping the history of the main Overwatch 2 protagonists.

Blizzard regularly adds new characters to the Overwatch 2 roster, balancing the game with the addition of a new tank, support, or DPS hero. The latest character to join the Overwatch 2 roster was Ramattra, a tank hero made available on December 6, 2022. As the previous two heroes who joined the game, Kiriko, Sojourn, and Junker Queen, respectively endorsed the roles of support, assault, and tank characters, Overwatch 2 players hope that Blizzard will soon announce a new DPS hero.

In a Q&A session with Twitch streamers Christal Raine and Bro You Wack, Overwatch 2 lead hero designer Alec Dawson teased that heroes joining the playable roster in the future might be “familiar faces” already known by fans as they previously appeared in the lore of Overwatch 2 just like Junker Queen or Sojourn. He also mentioned that the Overwatch 2 development team wanted a mix of new and existing faces becoming playable heroes, so they planned to introduce new lore elements and characters in the near future.

For the past few months, Blizzard focussed on balancing the heroes abilities to make a better-optimized game rather than introducing new Overwatch 2 characters. Scott Mercer and Morgan Maddren, respectively meta designer and senior software engineer, recently asked Overwatch 2 players to stop smurfing so that everyone could enjoy a better competitive experience. To further improve the overall gaming experience on Overwatch 2, Blizzard considered a variety of changes to prevent players from voluntarily leaving their matches early.

While Overwatch 2 players wait for new heroes to join Blizzard’s FPS, they can dress up the existing characters with a large range of cosmetic elements. The recently released Overwatch 2 x One Punch Man collaboration brought four themed legendary skins for some of the heroes to dress like the characters from the popular anime series, from the One Punch Man himself to Genos, Terrible Tornado, and the Mumen Rider. This collaboration will run until April 6, with a free legendary skin to unlock by playing Overwatch 2 matches while the others are only available through the in-game shop.

Overwatch 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
