Elden Ring snagged the lofty title of Game Of The Year at The Game Awards 2022, while Armored Core 6 won Best Action Game at the 2023 ceremony.

As 2023 draws to a close, FromSoftware fans will no doubt wonder what the future holds for the well-regarded Japanese developer. While there is very little set in stone for the moment, there are a few things for fans to look forward to in 2024.

FromSoftware Could Double Down On DLC In 2024

One of the only things that can be confirmed about FromSoftware and its plans for 2024 is that it is working on some DLC. FromSoftware could double down and release multiple DLCs for its games over the course of the year.

Shadow of the Erdtree

One of the few things that is known about FromSoftware's future plans is that the developer has been working on DLC for Elden Ring for some time now. The DLC does not have a release date yet, but "Shadow of the Erdtree" will probably be a relatively large expansion. The exact size is not confirmed, but expectations are high. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice sold over 2 million copies in the first 2 weeks after it launched in 2019, but it has to date received no major DLC, with the closest thing being a free update that provided alternate outifts and a boss rush mode. Armored Core 6 may very well tread the same path. It would be safest to assume that this will be the case, but there is always room for surprises. If FromSoftware does release any DLC for Armored Core 6, it could take the form of a new campaign that adds some more missions to the game. This is pure speculation, though, and only time will tell if such content is added.

FromSoftware Is Working On New Games

Nothing has been announced yet, but it is known that FromSoftware has some new games in the works. This information is based off of employee LinkedIn profiles and job listings, but as for what FromSoftware is currently working on, only time will tell.

There have been some rumors about FromSoftware's next big project, with one of the most popular surfacing in 2023 and suggesting that there is a game called Spellbound in the works, which will be a magic-heavy Souls-like. Another described a Dark Souls 2 spin-off, but these rumors are best described as dubious and should be taken with a healthy measure of salt.

Again, it is unhelpful to speculate on what FromSoftware is working on. There is no reliable information in the wild, and fans are encouraged to patiently wait for the developer to make an announcement. Again, there are no guarantees about the time frame here; FromSoftware's last new game, Armored Core 6, was announced at The Game Awards 2022, so the company may use the same platform in 2024 to announce whatever it is working on before launching it in 2025. This is purely speculation, of course.

2024 Could Be A Quiet Year For FromSoftware

There have been years in recent history where FromSoftware has not released any new games at all. The years 2017 and 2021 both passed without new FromSoftware games, so there is precedent. The year 2018 was also relatively quiet, with only Dark Souls: Remastered and the middling PSVR game Deracine being released that year.

For example, the King's Field franchise has not seen a release since 2002, and FromSoftware also appears to have closed the book on the Dark Souls franchise.

At this stage, all that is known about FromSoftware's upcoming projects is that they exist, and one of them is "Shadow of the Erdtree." It seems likely that "Shadow of the Erdtree" will arrive in 2024, but this has not been confirmed. Beyond that, one can only guess what the company's plans are.
