With both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X finally available for purchase, it seems Microsoft and Sony's newest platforms have become a hot commodity, selling out in stores across the globe. As such, it seems getting either next-generation box has proved a Herculian task for players, who have had to scope out stock drops, battle through crashing websites, and generally fight tooth and nail to bring home either console in time for the holidays.

However, some may have noticed "#FreeXbox" was trending on Twitter yesterday, with the phrase continue to pick up thousands of tweets every hour today. The reason behind the social media trend came from Twitter user DNP3, who is offering one lucky follower the chance to bag an Xbox Series X and several lucrative goodies for retweeting or commenting on his most recent post with the Free Xbox hashtag.

A content creator for eRa Eternity and the self-professed "CEO of Giveaways," DNP3 put out a tweet yesterday offering followers a stab at getting a free console, saying that the winner would be able to choose from either a $650 cash prize or a Series X. If they win and choose the latter, they'll also get two controllers, copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and NBA 2K21, a $50 digital code, and 3 months of Xbox Game Pass. It seems the tweet has already gained a lot of traction from eager followers, who have blown up the post with 43,000 retweets and 25,000 comments.

Seeing as the Series X is a pretty rare find at the moment, the contest looks to have attracted a lot of attention from eager Microsoft fans who are currently struggling to get their hands on a console. The giveaway will be open for the next two days, so it seems there's going to be even more competition vying to take home the contents of DNP3's bundle.

The situation with next-generation consoles has been a frustration for many gamers, the likes of which are itching to finally enter the next-generation and experience what makes Microsoft and Sony's newest hardware such a significant step up. Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed that "absolutely everything is sold" when asked about stock in November, leading to frustrated players venting online. It seems both consoles will be more readily available in the new year, but for now, fans are looking for any opportunity to snag the Series X or PlayStation 5 in the coming weeks.

The Xbox Series X is out now.
