Sony has officially revealed the free PlayStation Plus games for September 2023. PlayStation Plus subscribers know to expect the new free game announcements on the last Wednesday of every month, but there was a leak that accurately revealed one of the games ahead of time.
Earlier in the week, reputable leaker billbil-kun accurately leaked that the 2022 Saints Row reboot game would be one of the free PS Plus games for September 2023. The leak has been validated now that the official announcement has come from Sony, with the company also revealing two other free games PS Plus subscribers will get to claim come September.
Starting September 5 and until October 2, PlayStation Plus subscribers will get to claim Saints Row, Black Desert: Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero. All three games have both PS4 and PS5 versions available, so PS Plus subscribers can claim them all even if they have yet to upgrade to Sony's newest console. Saints Row is an open world action crime game, while Black Desert is a fantasy MMORPG that originally released in 2014. Generation Zero is an open world FPS survival game that was panned by critics at the time of its release. Unfortunately, fan reaction to the free PS Plus games for September 2023 has been largely negative.

Saints Row earned mixed reviews when it first launched last year, with many fans disappointed that it failed to live up to the legacy set by the previous games in the series. MMORPGs are fairly niche, and so interest in Black Desert is limited. And Generation Zero's negative reception speaks for itself. It seems some PS Plus subscribers simply are not happy with the September 2023 selection. On the bright side, PS Plus subscribers still have time to claim the free PS Plus games for August 2023 if they haven't done so already.
Time is running out, but the free PS Plus games for August 2023 are still available for subscribers to claim at the time of this writing. As a reminder, the free PS Plus games for August 2023 are Death's Door, Dreams, and PGA Tour 2K23. In contrast to the free PS Plus games for September 2023, the August 2023 offerings all earned mostly positive reviews. In fact, Death's Door was critically-acclaimed, and Dreams is one of the highest-rated PS4 exclusive games. Those disappointed by what September has to offer can also look forward to the next batch of free PS Plus games, set to drop in October.
