Similar to Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass, titles appear on a rotational basis on PS Plus and PS Plus Extra, allowing players to check out a wide variety of games. In anticipation of May's selection of free games on PS Plus Essentials, three titles have been revealed along with a special bonus game, with the file sizes of each of the three base games being released. According to PlayStation Game Size on Twitter, the file sizes for May's PS Plus selection of "Essential" games have been announced, which includes EA Sports FC 24 and Tunic, both of which are featured on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, as well as Ghostrunner 2. EA Sports FC 24 will require 48.5 GB of space on PlayStation 4 and 52.3 GB on PlayStation 5. Ghostrunner 2 will require 13.7 GB of space for PlayStation 5 users. Tunic will require a considerably lower amount of space, with the PlayStation 4 version requiring 4.8 GB and the PlayStation 5 requiring 1.5 GB.

These titles feature a good variety for PS Plus subscribers, ranging from colorful cartoon-inspired adventures to soccer gameplay. EA Sports FC 24 will likely scratch that FIFA itch for many soccer fans. Ghostrunner 2 offers action-packed first-person gameplay in an immersive cyberpunk world. Tunic provides a more relaxing and colorful game experience but includes certain twists, elements, and gameplay features that will feel familiar to fans of FromSoftware's collection of games. As part of this May update for PS Plus, Destiny 2: Lightfall is also included as a bonus. This came as a very welcome surprise, with PS Plus typically only offering three titles per month.

However, the addition of new titles means the removal of others, and it has already been confirmed that a total of 25 different PS Plus Extra games, including several fan-favorite titles, will be leaving the service in May. This list includes multiple entries in the Final Fantasy series as well as Horizon Zero Dawn. Other titles scheduled to be removed from PS Plus in May include How to Survive 2, Minit, Jotun, My Friend Pedro, Last Stop, and I Am Dead.
