Update 4/27: Shpeshal Ed has since said that their sources are saying that the free PS4 games are Battlefield V and Stranded Deep. They said that they do not have clarity on the PS5 games still, so that's a guessing game for now. It's entirely possible that the free PS5 PS Plus game for May 2021 is Godfall as was originally leaked, or maybe it is Disco Elysium: The Final Cut after all. Luckily, Sony usually reveals the free PS Plus games on the last Wednesday of each month, so PlayStation fans should find out for sure very soon.

Original story follows.

This coming Wednesday is the last Wednesday of April, which means Sony will likely use it to reveal the free PlayStation Plus games for May 2021. Sony rarely gives any hints or clues about the next batch of free PlayStation Plus games, but sometimes leakers get ahead of the curve. That may very well be what's happened with the free PS Plus games for May 2021, as industry insider Shpeshal Ed has potentially leaked the free PS Plus games for May 2021.

According to Shpeshal Ed's sources, there are two possible games that are likely to be part of the free PS Plus lineup for May 2021. One is Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, which just released for PS4 and PS5 at the end of March. Disco Elysium: The Final Cut earned rave reviews from critics and it would undoubtedly be a huge "get" for the PlayStation Plus lineup. The other game that Shpeshal Ed heard could be a free PS Plus title for May 2021 is Godfall, which originally launched alongside the console last year.

Shpeshal Ed stressed that fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt as this didn't come from their usual PS Plus source. It's possible that just one of these games free PS Plus games for May 2021, but it's also possible that both are going to be featured. If that were the case, Godfall would likely be the free PS5 game, whereas Disco Elysium: The Final Cut would technically be one of the two free PS4 games, but with a free PS5 upgrade available.

Out of the two games listed by Shpeshal Ed, Godfall seems like the more likely possibility for the free PS Plus games lineup. After all, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is only a month old at this point, whereas Godfall released last year. If Sony were to make Disco Elysium: The Final Cut free to PS Plus subscribers a mere month after its release, one would imagine it would find itself in a situation where customers would be asking for refunds, not unlike what happened when Maneater was a free PS Plus game.

Besides that, there's another reason why Godfall would be an obvious choice for the free PS Plus games for May 2021 list. Godfall's PS5 exclusivity window reportedly expires on May 12, and by making it a free PS Plus game, that would potentially discourage people from picking it up on competing platforms.

Godfall would make a great PS Plus game for reasons that benefit players as well, though. While Godfall matchmaking is in the works, it currently only allows players to play multiplayer with friends. By making Godfall a free PS Plus game, it should become much easier for people to play with their friends, as they won't have to spend any additional cash actually buying the game.

Regardless, fans should take this information with a big grain of salt until Sony makes the official announcement for the free PS Plus games for May 2021.
