The free PlayStation Plus games selection has been updated so subscribers can now snag the August 2023 games for their digital libraries. Subscribers can keep the monthly free PS Plus games indefinitely as long as they claim the games within their window of availability and stay subscribed to one of the PlayStation Plus tiers.

There are three PS Plus tiers available for subscribers to choose from. The free games are one of the main perks of the PS Plus Essential tier, along with special discounts and online multiplayer support. Those who are signed up for the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers get access to the free monthly games as well, but they also can check out hundreds of additional PS4 and PS5 titles. Those games aren't for keeps, though, which makes the monthly games arguably more exciting.

The free PS Plus games for August 2023 are Death's Door, Dreams, and PGA Tour 2K23. All three games are available for everyone who is signed up for PS Plus and has a PS4 or PS5 handy. And while there's only a native version of Dreams available, the fact that the PS5 is backward compatible means those who have Sony's newest console are totally free to claim that for their collection as well.

While some may write off the free PS Plus games for August 2023 because it has an indie game and two fairly niche titles, the lineup is actually pretty strong. Death's Door may be an indie game, but that is certainly no reason to disregard it. Death's Door has earned critical acclaim for its tough-but-fair challenge and for how it successfully blends elements of the Dark Souls franchise with The Legend of Zelda.

Dreams has also earned critical acclaim, and it is really a criminally underplayed game. The latest title from LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule, Dreams gives players the freedom to literally build their own video games from the ground-up. The content in Dreams has only expanded since its initial launch, so there should be plenty to keep fans busy.

PGA Tour 2K23 is a golf game, and while that may mean it only appeals to hardcore golf fans, it earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its original release. Considering this, those who don't normally play golf games or sports games in general should still grab PGA Tour 2K23 while it's free through PS Plus and form their own opinion on the game.
