PC gamers have a limited time to claim The Elder Scrolls Online for free, an MMORPG that offers hundreds of hours of content. The Elder Scrolls Online first released in 2014 to a mixed reception, but opinion on the MMORPG has improved significantly over the years.

For a time, The Elder Scrolls Online required a subscription fee, not unlike fellow MMORPG World of Warcraft. Ultimately, the decision was made to drop the Elder Scrolls Online subscription fee, though those interested still need to purchase the base game to play. Typically, The Elder Scrolls Online costs $19.99, but it's currently free for a limited time.

As luck would have it, The Elder Scrolls Online is free on the Epic Games Store right now and will be until Thursday, July 27 at 10:00am CT. All PC gamers need to do is claim the game through the Epic Games Store, and it's theirs to keep forever. Like other MMORPGS, The Elder Scrolls Online offers hundreds of hours of content, with How Long to Beat data indicating it takes most players an average of 160 hours to wrap up their time with the base game content. Those trying to see absolutely everything there is to offer can expect to play it a lot longer than that, however. Plus, those willing to spend some money can expand their time with the game even further.

While the base game for The Elder Scrolls Online is free on the Epic Games Store right now, the post-launch expansions, aka "Chapters," are not. Fans can purchase The Elder Scrolls Online Collection: Necrom for $59.99 to get the Necrom expansion on top of all previously-released expansions. But even if one opts not to purchase the expansions, the base game content should keep Elder Scrolls fans plenty busy.

The Elder Scrolls Online has been offering some of the only new Elder Scrolls content to franchise fans for over a decade. Bethesda hasn't released a new main series Elder Scrolls since Skyrim dropped in 2011, and while there have been remasters and re-releases of that game, The Elder Scrolls Online has been providing genuinely new experiences to fans on a regular basis since its launch in 2014.

Those that have yet to try The Elder Scrolls Online for themselves may want to make sure they jump on it while it's free through the Epic Games Store. It could very well help tide them over until The Elder Scrolls 6 launches, whenever that may be.
