Capcom has made some of its classic games available to play in browsers. The video game company has created Capcom Town which can be accessed in any internet browser and is filled with everything Capcom including five of its classic games.

The predecessor of Capcom, called I.R.M. Corporation, was founded in 1979. When its founder left 4 years later, the company was renamed Capcom, a clipped compound of "Capsule Computers." This was the company's term for the arcade machines it produced. In the late 80s, Capcom began licensing its arcade games to be released on personal computers and through ports also started to expand into the home console video game market. One of its biggest successes ever was Street Fighter 2, originally released in arcades in 1991 and later selling over 6.3 million copies on SNES. The first Resident Evil was released in 1996 and designed specifically for PlayStation. It brought back zombies into popular culture and helped establish the survival-horror genre.

To celebrate its rich history, Capcom created Capcom Town, a website dedicated to its 40th anniversary. Here players can find all the company's franchises represented by various buildings, as well as information on merchandise, news, and everything Capcom. On top of that, five classic games were also made available to play in the arcade section, which is marked by a red arcade machine in the top right corner of the screen. Once the arcade machine is clicked on, players can choose to play Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Mega Man X, Street Fighter 2, or Final Fight. These games and the website can also be accessed through a mobile phone, making it widely available for whoever is interested in going back in time and enjoying these classics.

All games are available in both Japanese and English, which also shows the tendency of Japanese game titles to change for the Western market. Therefore, players shouldn't be confused if they first see Rocketman appear as a title; they're in the right place to play Mega Man.

There's plenty for gamers to see when visiting Capcom Town including a museum which features concept art, game footage, and various other elements of Capcom's major franchises. But players can also vote on new exhibits for the museum in the center of town or vote on trivia related to games for special rewards.
