Highlights

  • Forza Motorsport's Update 1.1 addresses a connection issue that caused frustration for some players, specifically related to an infinite loading screen during car upgrades in the Builders Cup Intro Series.
  • While this update fixes one problem, there are still other bugs and issues that Turn 10 is aware of and working on, including PC stability, graphics, inputs, and cinematics.
  • As an ongoing platform, fans can expect regular updates for Forza Motorsport in the future, similar to other service-based experiences in Xbox's first-party stable like Microsoft Flight Simulator and Sea of Thieves.

Xbox's most recent first-party release, Forza Motorsport, gets Update 1.1, which addresses a frustrating connection issue that has caused headaches for some players. Turn 10's Forza Motorsport is the latest of Xbox's 2023 first-party lineup which saw Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush shadow drop to critical acclaim in January, Arkane's Redfall stumble in May, and Bethesda Game Studios' massive space RPG Starfield become the studio's fastest-selling game ever in September.

It's been six years since Forza Motorsport 7 in 2017. Since then, Turn 10's sister studio Playground Games has released two critically acclaimed open world racers in Forza Horizon 4 and 5, set in England and Mexico, respectively. During this time, Xbox's arcade-focused Forza Horizon series has arguably become more celebrated than its more serious, simulation-based Motorsport counterpart in the latter's absence. Now back as an ongoing platform which will see updates for years to come, Forza Motorsport will look to once again recapture racing fans who yearn for the simulation experience on Xbox.

Forza Motorsport has been out for two weeks and, as with any modern AAA game, it's been receiving some post-launch hotfix support. The latest stability fix, Update 1.1 is a small one, only addressing a single headache. Rolling out for both consoles and PC, Update 1.1 fixes a problem that traps players in a dreadful infinite loading screen when upgrading cars in the Builders Cup Intro Series.

While Forza Motorsport's 1.1 update takes care of this brutal loading screen and network problem, there are still a litany of bugs and issues Turn 10 is aware of and are still working on. Many PC stability issues are listed on Forza Support, as well as issues pertaining to graphics, inputs, and cinematics, among other components of the game. Despite all these known bugs, the sim racer seems to be running optimally for most players, as there isn't a lot of chatter surrounding the game's bugs online. Forza Motorsport's previous 1.0 update, which went live exactly a week ago, addressed many more issues than this recent Update 1.1. Perhaps fans should expect another update a week from now which would hopefully take another sizable chunk out of Forza Support's known issues list.

As Turn 10 further stabilizes its brand-new sim racer it's not too soon for fans to wonder when Forza Motorsport will receive its first batch of new cars and tracks. With the time it took for Turn 10 to work on Forza Motorsport, hopefully the studio has large swaths of new content ready to go in advance. As an ongoing platform, fans should expect regular Forza Motorsport updates at Xbox showcases over the next several years, much like Microsoft Flight Simulator, Sea of Thieves, and other service-based experiences in Xbox's first-party stable.
