Is There Multiplayer in Forza Horizon 5?

Yes, there is multiplayer in Forza Horizon 5, and it features crossplay between PC and Xbox users. In fact, almost all of the game can be played entirely in multiplayer if that's how friends want to experience Playground Games' beautifully rendered Mexican map.

To experience multiplayer, players first need to complete the opening Showcase segment, and then complete the next two required tasks. The map will then open up to more types of events, and players can now invite friends to a Convoy. From here, every event in PVP, PVE, and open-world exploration can be done while playing with others.

All Types of Multiplayer in Forza Horizon 5

Multiple cars and people outside of a building

Forza Horizon 5 is already a massive success for Xbox, and with so many people playing, there are plenty of opportunities to partake in multiplayer gameplay, including:

  • Co-op for any Event (e.g. Expeditions, Circuits, Cross Country)
  • Horizon Arcade
  • Horizon Tour
  • The Eliminator
  • Horizon Open (traditional PVP matches)
  • Rivals
  • Open-world exploration (which includes head-to-head challenges)

Every multiplayer mode that isn't co-op map exploration (like locating barn finds in Forza Horizon 5), Events, or Rivals, can be seen by bringing up the map. Press RB on consoles, and then tick only "Multiplayer Events".

How to Play With Friends in Forza Horizon 5

To participate in Events, map exploration, and other multiplayer modes together, friends must first be a part of the same Convoy. This is basically Forza's version of creating a party. After completing the opening showcase and the next two events, players can invite friends to their Convoy, or be invited to one. However, PR stunts like Drift Zones in Forza Horizon 5 must be completed solo.

This uses the Xbox/Microsoft friend system, even on Steam. So, invites will appear as a notification, and players can hold down the middle Xbox button on consoles to accept the Convoy invite, or open the Game Bar on PC and accept the invite.

To send a Convoy invite to friends, bring up the pause menu, and then press Y on Xbox consoles, and select "Create a Convoy". To keep it between friends, choose "Invite Only". This will bring up the Xbox gaming bar, and players can choose who to invite from their Microsoft friend list.

Whoever sends the invites will be the leader of the Convoy, and the only person who can start events. Once they have started an event, all players in the Convoy will be taken to that Event, no matter how far away they are on the map. This means they can explore while the leader searches, and try to unlock content like the Los Jardine Bonus Board in Forza Horizon 5.

How Many Players in Forza Horizon 5 Multiplayer?

There can be a maximum of twelve players in a Convoy in Forza Horizon 5. Although, most multiplayer events have a limit of six people in a team. The largest number of people that can play at once is in The Eliminator, with over 50 cars able to battle it out for the number one position. The Eliminator is Forza's popular battle royale mode.

There are many more beginner tips for Forza Horizon 5 that players should take advantage of, but hopefully this guide will have proved helpful for anybody who wants to play co-op, or challenge their friends in Playground Games' newest entry into the Horizon series.
