Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 is finally here and is the second season to take place on the brand-new map that was introduced in December 2021. As with every new season, there are a lot of changes that have been made to the game, including map changes, new weapons, unvaulted fan-favorite weapons, new items such as the Siege Cannon as well as brand-new movement mechanics, shaking up how the game is played, much like the sliding mechanic from Chapter 3 Season 1.

The biggest change to come to Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2, is the removal of building, the one mechanic that defines Fortnite and sets it apart from other battle royale games. However, it is worth noting that the removal of building is only temporary and will come back to the game in the future.

When is Building Coming Back to Fortnite

Prominent Fortnite leaker HYPEX has revealed that building will be removed from Fortnite for one week, with many other leakers claiming it will be nine days. This makes sense as nine days from the start of Chapter 3, Season 2 is Tuesday, March 29, which should be the date of the first update of the season, the 20.10 patch.

It is worth noting that the removal of building only applies to regular public matches, which are matches played in Solos, Duos, Trios, or Squads. The building mechanic is still activated in Team Rumble, Creative, and Arena, which is Fortnite's competitive mode.

So, players that really don't enjoy the removal of building in Fortnite have options to still be able to use building in the game.

The reason for building being removed is to allow for players to use and get used to the brand-new movement mechanics that have come to Fortnite. Sprinting, mantling, and shoulder bashing have now come to the game, with them joining the sliding mechanic that was added in Chapter 3 Season 1.

Sprinting allows players to run faster for a short period of time. Mantling allows players to climb, such as onto roofs and on ledges by jumping near a climbable platform. And the shoulder bash mechanic allows players to burst through doors.

All of these new mechanics are active in the modes where building is still enabled, which could give players an early look at how Fortnite will play long term once building returns to public matches.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
