After teasing the return of MIdas, Fortnite's latest update not only brings the villain back to the popular battle royale, but a new event filled with quests, rewards, and the arrival of a popular game mode. It's been a busy season already for the massively popular battle royale, though that is nothing new as Epic Games has made sure to keep Fortnite updated and evolving on a consistent basis.

Chapter 5, Season 2 of Fortnite arrived at the beginning of March after a slight delay, adding in Greek mythology elements and characters like Zeus, Aphrodite, and the recently added Hades. However, recent Fortnite leaks indicated longtime villain Midas was making his return to the game after seemingly being jailed within the Underworld. Following the Midas skin leak for Fortnite, Epic Games has finally revealed the latest special event alongside Update 29.01 for players to check out.

Fortnite's latest update brings the Rise of Midas event to the game, continuing the villain's story following his escape from The Underworld as he attempts to discover the traitor within his group. Part of this event will see five quests get added in phases and can be tackled until the end arrives on April 2. In addition to new story beats, players can earn rewards for completing 6, 12, and 18 quests ranging from a spray, back bling, to a golden glider.

During the Rise of Midas event, players can also experience the return of the popular Fortnite LTM mode Floor is Lava, albeit with a new twist. Known as Midas Presents: Floor is Lava, this event changes the look of the lava to gold and now features items from CHapter 5, Season 2. As expected, Floor is Laval will also be rolling out its own unique quests to complete, as well as rewards like the Lightning King and Zeus Medallion sprays, as well as The Gilded Vengeance Pickaxe.

Naturally, the Fortnite store is also getting a touch of gold with the Ascendant Midas outfit, Golden King's Cape Back Bling, and The Golden Touch Pickaxe getting added to the shop next week on March 26. Epic has also teases a special shade style for the outfit as well.

Lastly, the other major piece to this update is the Rise of Midas Cup, a solo competition where players attempt to earn the most points across their region. Winners will earn the Ascendant Midas outfit and Golden King's Cape Back Bling before they arrive in the shop, and anyone who earns 8 total points will get The Rise of Midas Loading Screen when Update 29.10 arrives in the future. From the Compete tab in-game, players will have 3 hours to play 10 matches to earn as many points as they can.

However, new content and skins are not the only pieces to this update. Update 29.01 does fix a number of existing issues introduced this season, including a bug that allowed players to throw the Thunderbolt of Zeus through structures and buildings. The Chains of Hades Olympian Power from the initial Fortnite trailer is also live, letting players pull distant enemies towards them to follow up with an attacking combo. Players can find it as loot or attempt to kill Hades to acquire the power.
