Just last night Fortnite had their Star Wars event, and it was one of their biggest live events yet. It was so big, in fact, that Epic's launcher couldn't handle how many people were trying to sign in.

For those who were able to sign in for the event (or at least watch it on Twitch) it was one of the coolest events in the history of Fortnite, hosted by a holographic Geoff Keighley, accompanied by remixes of John Williams' classic score, and even featured a dancing J. J. Abrams at one point. Many others, though, were just filled with disappointment from being unable to participate.

The lure of a Star Wars crossover event was too much for many Fortnite players to pass up, and it was even more than the game's server could handle. For several hours, players were unable to sign in to Epic's PC launcher, even after the event was over. As a form of apology to all those who were unable to attend the event, Epic gifted all Fortnite owners the event's exclusive TIE Whisperer glider.

The event started off with a battle in the skies above Fortnite's island, with the Millennium Falcon caught in a dogfight with several TIE fighters. After gunning each one down, the Falcon landed and the event pretty much turned into a talk show. Keighley hosted the show while an overly-enthusiastic Stormtrooper acted as the comic relief for several minutes. Finally, J. J. Abrams showed up in a unique skin based on himself to introduce what most people were there to see: an exclusive clip from the upcoming space epic Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Players were asked to vote on which clip they expected to see, with the majority voting on "Jedi Mind Trick."

Turns out, most of the players were right. A giant projection screen showed up to play the scene, in which Rey, Finn and Poe landed the Falcon on an Imperial base, shot some Stormtroopers, and then Rey pulled the Jedi mind trick on a couple others. The scene (clip, really) was over in less than a minute. Keighley and the others wrapped things up, with Abrams Naruto running his way off stage.

Abrams held one more poll before he left, though, this time asking players to pick their favorite lightsaber color. Suddenly, more TIE fighters showed up to chase away the Falcon as fans heard a new line of dialogue from the film, this time from Emperor Palpatine himself. After the Falcon flew off, a chest that had been unloaded from it earlier sprung open, giving all the players in attendance a lightsaber of the color they had chosen to play with.

Now that the event's over, Star Wars challenges are live in Fortnite, with lightsabers and First Order plasma rifles available as Mythic-rarity weapons.

Fortnite is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and mobile devices.
