Fortnite recently introduced Chapter 3, bringing a host of new content to the battle royale. Among the features were several items pertaining to the Spider-Man franchise, including a skin modeled after the legendary Marvel superhero. Unfortunately, it appears that an exploit has been discovered that gives players an unfair advantage while using this outfit.

Recently, Fortnite streamer and YouTuber nickeh30 revealed that a Built-in Emote for the new Spider-Man skin available in Fortnite Chapter 3 was “pay-to-win.” According to the content creator, this emote called Neighbourly Hang allowed players to conceal themselves from enemies. Using this exclusive animation for Spider-Man, they could then catch their opponents off guard. While this might seem hard to believe, given the bright colors of the skin, nickeh30 managed to capture the unfair emote in action during a game.

In a video recorded by nickeh30, the streamer showed how powerful the Spider-Man suit could be in Fortnite Chapter 3. The clip started with the player inside a building, explaining how the Neighborly Hang emote let players stay suspended above doorways. Following this demonstration, he used the emote to confuse an attacker. After taking fire from the enemy player, the content creator jumped on top of an open door and activated the emote. Hanging above the door, the pursuing enemy lost track of nickeh30. This allowed the streamer to jump down and kill the confused opponent quickly.

After capturing this video, the streamer then shared it on TikTok. Unsurprisingly, this clip that demonstrated the overpowered Spider-Man skin became extremely popular. Since being posted to the social media platform, the video garnered a staggering 3.6 million views and over 377K likes. This massive response from the Fortnite community seems to suggest players are concerned about the competitive integrity of the game.

It’s worth noting that it’s not all bad news regarding Spider-Man in Fortnite. Besides this arguably “pay-to-win” skin, the developers at Epic Games introduced web-shooters. These new items that can be found around the map allow players to shoot webs and swing between buildings like the real Spider-Man. And unlike the broken emote, many fans seem to like the new web-slinging mechanic.

It will be interesting to see how Epic Games addresses this emote moving forward. While the advantages of this animation are situational, as there needs to be some type of surface to conceal Spider-Man, it remains effective in certain situations. Hopefully, the developers can find a solution to this issue so that the emote doesn’t impact the gameplay for fans.

Fortnite is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
