Epic Games Makes Major Fortnite Announcement

During the State of Unreal 2024 presentation, Epic Games announced a ton of new and exciting features will be added to Fortnite in the coming months and years, as reported by IGN. One of the largest announcements from Epic Games revealed that a new season of Fortnite will be created entirely using the game's Unreal Editor tools. This robust level editor is available to players now, promoting even more creativity within the community.

Epic Games claimed that the new Fortnite season would ship "by the end of 2025." Fans also got confirmation that the long-rumored Fortnite first-person mode will be coming to the game thanks to UEFN sometime this year. Other useful features were announced for UEFN, like the ability to follow creators. UEFN, along with Unreal Engine 5, has allowed Fortnite to become more than just a battle royal, turning the game into a platform to launch other experiences on top of. In recent updates, several new game modes have launched within Fortnite, like Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival. Fortnite also features a deep LEGO mode for players to test their survival and crafting skills.

UEFN was released as a public beta last year and is a PC-only tool. The tool promotes creativity within the Fortnite community, allowing players to create and develop new game modes, maps, and experiences within the game itself. Fortnite was brought over to Unreal Engine 5 in 2022, marking a huge shift for the game as a whole. A plethora of modern video games have been developed with Unreal Engine 5, with Fortnite greatly benefiting from the engine. Along with graphical improvements thanks to Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games recently introduced entirely new movement systems to Fortnite, complete with mounting and hurdling abilities.
