Chapter 2 Season 6 of Fortnite has officially begun. As with every season, Fortnite's island undergoes a multitude of locale changes and geographic alterations, with this latest season being no exception. However, the game has gone several steps further, introducing several brand new elements into the meta. Chief among those new elements are wild animals, and the ability to tame them.

The official launch for Season 6 of Epic Games' popular free-to-play battle royale is today. The finale to Fortnite's Season 5 events was revealed in the epic Zero Point Crisis cinematic, which saw the likes of God of War's Kratos, Alien's Xenomorph and Ripley, and other various characters from the many franchise crossovers featured in the prior season.

Once players drop into the island after they complete the Season 6 solo experience , one of the first things they'll notice is the addition of various fauna around the map. Animals including chickens, frogs, boars, and wolves now populate the island, though the latter two will reportedly attack players on-sight.
While this does add another layer of threats to the game, players can tame some of these wild animals. The method in doing so is a fairly easy one once it's known what to do. The steps vary a bit between the three known tame-able animals, so be sure to follow the steps explicitly.

How to tame wolves in Fortnite

Currently the most deadly of any species, wolves present a high risk, high reward situation for players. In order to tame a wolf, do the following:

  • Explore the wild regions of The Island until finding wolves.
  • Eliminate one to earn "meat," a new resource the wolf will drop.
  • Throw the meat down near another wolf, then hide.
  • Once the wolf is distracted by the meat, players can safely approach.
  • Press and hold the interact button to "tame" the wolf

Wolves will stay by the player's side until eliminated, similarly to how hiring an NPC character in Season 5 functioned, minus the Gold Bar payments.

How to tame boars in Fortnite

Taming boars is a little different than wolves, although they are a bit easier to find as they don't stick to packs. In order to tame a boar, players must:

  • Pick up fruit or vegetables
  • Find a boar in the wild regions of The Island
  • Throw the fruit or vegetables down near the boar, but don't let it spot you
  • Sneak up while the boar is distracted
  • Press and hold the interact button to "tame" the boar

One thing to note is that with Season 6's new item crafting system, players will be able to craft a Hunter's Cloak, which grants the ability to sneak up on any of the wild animals unnoticed, making the taming process significantly easier.

How to tame chickens in Fortnite

Chickens work a bit differently than wolves and boars, most notably that they don't ever attack players. There's also a much easier taming process when it comes the harmless birds:

  • Explore the wild regions of The Island
  • Find a chicken, and chase it down!
  • Press the interact button to "tame" the chicken
  • Players will now be carrying the chicken
  • Jump to fly

While it isn't exactly flying, chickens appear to function somewhat similarly to how Fortnite's balloons work, granting increased jump height and a slow, controlled descent from high ground.

Fortnite's website does mention "the most fearsome predators have yet to hatch," which indicates the possibility of either some kind of predatory bird, or possibly even dinosaurs. Season 6's theme is Primal after all, so adding the prehistoric creatures would certainly be in-theme. With a whole host of changes to the island as well as the game's meta, it'll certainly be interesting to see what other content Fortnite has up its' sleeve in the weeks to come.
